Looking for a cheap 8gpm cold water unit. I call the local Dealer in the area who i dont really care for and asked him a few questions. He said he could get a 8gpm, 13hp 1700psi, direct drive unit for $2700.00.

Now i know direct drive isnt the best thing to do, BUT i have had a direct drive unit for 5 years with no problems what so ever. So here is my question, Home depot sells a 13hp honda 3700psi direct drive for $1000.00. Is there any reason i couldnt buy that unit take off the pump and put on a 8gpm pump for $450.00 and add a second inlet for a water hose or tank? I would save $1200 bucks from this local guy and it sounds like thats what he is trying to sell me.

Roofers use a 8 to 10gpm machine and around 2000psi and i have used them in the past. Now this machine will clean the crap out of concrete in a hurry. I dont need hot water i just want to clean concrete faster. I dont care for surface cleaners just sold one alittle while ago. Anybody see why this wouldnt work?

Thanks for the help everyone.

Mark,

Feel free to call me Tuesday, I can give you some options.

Off the top of my head I can not think of a direct drive 8 GPM pump.. I will research this tomorrow.

I have a local guy that can do a 8gpm, 2500psi 18hp honda w/electric start. I think i am going to go that route. For around $3000.00

I think i will need a little more than 1700psi to get concrete really clean. so the 8gpm,1700psi 13hp machine might be alittle to small.

Even with the high GPM output, is it really going to make that much of a difference without heat?

I run circles around the other cold washer guys.

In fact, I was just showing one of the supers the other day what a cold-water washer versus a hot washer can do. I washed down the flat work with nothing but cold water, paint around the door, and everywhere else, followed it up with a hot water rinse, paint gone.

Think they were getting some smart ideas, because they were buying Home Depot specials, they were a little discouraged after my demo and then they found out that I gave an asst my old Home Depot special (actually Costco Special) for nothing.

I told them there was a reason we spend thousands of dollars on our equipment, instead of getting one for a couple hundred dollars.

Robert,

Have you ever tried an 8.0 gpm machine?

I demoed an 8.0 gpm 3500 psi cold machine last week.

The volume of water is tremendous. The results of the high gpm were comparable to having heat or not.

The differance in a 5.5 gpm to 8.0 gpm is a 46% increase in volume!

I cleaned a two car drive in 10 (TEN) minutes.

Add heat and you would really kick butt.

Mine is going on 14 years and just a pump repair kit and normal oild changes and still starts with one pull and peforms like new.

It's a Landa so maybe quality counts.

I would love an 8gpm machine but you need to have the flow from the property to make it fly or tug around a water tank. Not my bag I don't want to work night shift cleaning store fronts. I'll stick to day work and decks. It bugs me when folks put down direct drives. Not that you did....

No i love my direct drive, but 5 years at 4gpm and Im wanting more. Not for nightime store fronts just daytime driveways and decks. Sure is nice to be done in half the time. I used to be in the roofing business and i miss the power of the bigger machines.

How much do one of those dhere eight-galloned thingys cost?

At 8-GPM and heat? Anything it hit would be steril. I would kill to have some thing like that...

KILL I TELL YA!!

Same here! But one simple fact is the darn things are so large. I like the ease of the cold W machines. In my area some jobs would need 500 feet of hose or more to get to the decks I do. And I would hate to have my machine sitting in the street while I am working un seen in the back 40. Then again heat on redwood decks is not really needed the California sun does that for me. :)

seacrest out! :)
