Need Help Removing Sikkens

Hi, Power Washers. I have an enormous problem. My husband and I just built the log home of our dreams and sadly, the painting contractor used the wrong stain on approximately 2/3rds of the outside of the house. We ordered Sikkens Natural Light, but got Sikkens horrible Pumpkin Orange instead. (It isn't really called pumpkin orange, but it should be.) In any case, the contractor kinda panicked and immediately began attempting to strip it off. I phoned Sikkens and was advised that it would be better to allow it to cure for 7 days or so before starting the removal process. Unfortunately, this wisdom wasn't heeded and now our beautiful logs look horrible. ANY wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jocelyn

I can imagine the contractors face when that pumpkin orange started setting. You are going to need to use a very caustic sodium hydroxide based stripper. All the wood restoration professionals on this board use the same technique for stripping and pH balancing. Hopefully one of them will come along and bail you out.

I think you are refering to Cetrol 23 Sikkens Also there is a top coat that goes on after. Cetrol plus

Dont Panic.................. If he/she didnt put the top coat on it you are okay!
The bottom coat is easy to take off....the tough part is when the top coat is on and seals the bottom.

The "orange" is not really orange it is a light brown that looks great after a couple weeks, It wont be the look you are after compared to the natural....... But that 23 is a nice transparent color but when you first apply it it looks like chit.Pumpkin orange!
If they just put the bottom coat on it will look real Orange. But when the top coat is applied you will loose alot of that Orange look.

I have some stuff that you cant buy unless you spend 10,000 for a "membership"
But I will sell it to `ya at my cost .........Plus you pay shipping! It is a stripper that melts sikkens or anything else. 100% take off. Takes off bottom coat and top coat.

Not a sales pitch .............I have only 3- 5 gals left from a couple years ago when I bought into this. I dont have a store and dont sell as a living. Just wanted to help `ya out and get rid of some of my stripper at the same time. smwash@pennswoods.net

Since this is a support form, I really need help

Hi everyone,

I am very glad this forum exists. I need help.

I have purchased an older steam cleaner made by the American Kleaner company, which was founded in 1934 The model I have is an American Kleaner Hornet 2000, on a small trailer, kerosene powered with a 110v electric motor.
I have been looking everywhere to find information on it, or on steam cleaners in general, especially safety procedures and tips for mainbtenance. This steam cleaner has a Cat pump , a friend thinks it's a 280-type. Plus it comes with a soap tank as well.

I am having a local shop in Michigan go over it to ensure it is safe. I did not see a pressure relief valve on it anywhere. I built a lot of air compressor unitsa in the past and pressure relief is something you always watch.

My e-mail address is: cw4dtu@wideopenwest.com, and anyone who has any suggestions or copies of a manual would be welcomne.

I don't expect anything for free, and would be glad to pay for Xerox copies. I called American Kleaner, which is now owned by Karcher, but they are not able to give me any support when I asked to buy manuals, Xerox pages, specs, etc.

This machine was previously used by a company in Wisconsin to steam clean VW engines, and I will be using it for other similar work. I am also interested in general tips on maintenance and safety, and any publications along those lines.

Thanks,
Darryl Urcheck

Jocelyn,
We can help. We work with Sikkens... and logs. Give me a call.

Do need to know if you applied:

Cetol 1 & 23
Cetol SRD
Cetol DEK (yes have seen it on logs)

Removing it right away was not necessarily wrong. How it was attempted is the question.

Beth
