Just looking for marketing ideas.

I've bought some direct mailers for my area and surrounding areas. Do you guys use yellow book? Local papers?

Just looking for ideas.

You "bought" direct mailers? Most design postcards, target their audience, and mail through repeated mailings. Not sure what you mean...

Yes, bought a mailing list and had the company send out a postcard to each resident. Is there any cheaper way?

I assume that you designed a card for your business? Cheaper? Depends on who you used and the quality of your postcard. Both physical quality as well as the content and your call to action on it.

Did you target your core demographic? A mailing list doesn't really tell you much other than provide you with addresses. If these end up in the hands of people that have no need for your service, it really wasn't effective.

If you have already mailed them, target your results. When you receive calls, ask every caller how they heard of your business. You will learn very quickly if you have a good return rate and then you can determine your ROI.

The key to mailers is repetition. One mailing will produce small returns. You have to target your customers, and then send them repeated cards.

Hoped I helped...

I'll second the Vista print products. Haven't tried mailing any post cards yet though. I got great products and service for the money. You can get some very specific mailing lists on line CHEAP! My town has a free local newspaper with a 13,000 circulation. It's only $18/issure for 2x3" ad in the trades section. I'm going to try that route in a couple weeks when it warms up.
I'm putting together a brochure targeted at realtors specifically. Going to try and offer a cash finders fee or discount to them. I talked with a couple guys that had great luck doing that.Go for that curb appeal forclosure clean up angle. Just going to look in the yellow pages and mail them myself. Probably print some scratch pads and give them to the realtors too.

Hey Tom, if it's a decent paper that directory ad should do well for you. Do you guys have web sites, pass out business cards to everyone nearby, network with painters and other contractors? Logo your trucks drop business cards in establishments you visit???

There are hundreds of ways to market a PW business and I recommend trying to use them all at once if you can.
