No check valves needed......

.... to run 2 machines into one hose. The problem turns out to be with the type of unloader you have.
Running two machines into one hose requires you to have pressure type unloaders on both machines. The flow type unloader will not allow you to do this. We tied in a cold water 4gpm 3500 psi washer with our Tuff H/W super skid and we were pumping around 10 gpm no problem. Hook it up to the surface cleaner and you better wear a weight belt!!

Other than changing your tips in the surface cleaner did you have to alter any other fittings? Do you still use 3/8" hose? Does this alter the PSI at all?
One more question how do you know if your unloader is flow or PSI?

When you pull the trigger on a flow unloader it will slowly build pressure up to the set pressure. On a trapped pressure unloader you will have a sudden burst of pressure when you pull the trigger then it will level out to the set pressure.

All we did was create a Quick coupled "T" and tied the two supplies into one side each. Then the third side is quick coupled to our primary hose reel. The pressure remains that of the highest washer (of the two) but the gpm is totaled... hence our 3000 at 10 gpm (+ or -). We changed to tips to accomodate the pressure and flow we wanted and it works excellent. No other mods were made.

Good Luck,

Greg

Have you ever seen a dual head pump? The way they tie the two heads together is with a small tube running thru the pump body. What would be the difference if the pumps were seperate? How about if you tie the outputs together before the unloader and use only one unloader?

Yes I have seen a dual head pump. I believe they are typically used for dual wand setups, correct? It would most likely provide the same results but I would think you would need a much larger motor to power it and a larger inlet hose to supply the water. Not to mention I bet those pumps are expeeeeensive! Wouldn't mind having one tough...

The logic seems right to use only one unloader but you would have to quick couple everything so you could break away the machines when needed. The only time I have been using the 10 gpm is on flatwork thus far.
