NO WATER PRESSURE -(tank?)

I have been washing residential for a couple years part time. Recently I got to a house and my machine was not keeping pressure. I hooked up my small small machine and still pressure faded in and out. After realizing it was the house and not my machines I want to know how common it is to run in to this.
To sum it up, do I need a water tank just for garanted water pressure and what size tank would I need?

How common is it to run into low water supply/pressure in areas with city water?
Thank you so much for all of your help!

I checked with our mechanic about this and he gave me a list of things to have you check.

The first thing you should check is any screens or filters on your machine. They could have debris partially plugging them and that can effect it.

This could be an isolated problem with the one house, maybe they didn't turn the water on completly from inside. Maybe they were taking showers or washing dishes. If your machine uses 5gpm or less you should not be having this problem normally so I wouldn't worry about it. If your using a gear drive machine getting a tank won't help you anyway, they do not draw water from a tank, they must be fed from a pressurized source like a hose bib.

Give Tom Vogel a call... he may be able to fix your problem and set you up with a small float tank... 610-392-1899.

From my experience, both of my gear driven pumps draft water from a tank very well, that is why I have them... much like a belt driven pump, the gear drive pumps reduce pump rpms so they will draft water.

Direct drive pumps dont draft from a tank well.... When I had a direct drive pump, I had to elevate the float tank 2 feet above the pump to get flow to the pump.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help but im still a little uncertain about the tank. Is it worth it to get a tank just for water pressure purposes or do most people have them for the sole reason of having thier own water source?
Thanks again!

For me, having a tank offers flexibility. I can hook to the water source, or bring my own water. Having a tank will also help when you're too far from the water source and don't have enough hose to reach.
Comes in handy out on remote jobs as well. I usually just stick the hose in the tank and let the water fill the tank as I'm using it. I've never had a situation where my machine (5.5 gpm) uses water faster than the water source can fill it.
In short, I feel a tank would be a wise investment.
