Paint Chips

Back from bike week and back to work :-(
Den and I have a job tomorrow which involves cleaning off chipped peeling paint to prepare for repainting. Problem is it's a railing and posts that go around a deck, which is not going to be cleaned. I don't exactly relish the thought of having to clean up wet paint chips (you know Dennis, that would be my job LOL). Any of you guys have any great tips on keeping those paint chips confined? Best thing we came up with was tarping everything around it, any better ideas? Thanks, as always. P.S. Congrats to Dennis for being given an Assistant Professorship at the college..we're all very proud of him!!

When you say tarping you do mean laying down plastic 1.5 mil sheeting-right. That is what I would do-limit the clean up.

Yes, Dave, that's what we were thinking; would probably do for the flat surfaces, but what about the walls of the house and the windows etc.? How far and furious does that stuff fly?

I would cover any and everything with plastic-and limit clean up-more prep. but it saves 2X on cleanup.

Gloria,
Since starting our pressurewashing business, have reiceved numerous calls to remove loose paint from (decks, fences). It is a very messy job, paint flies everywhere. What I have been doing is spraying everything off(house, windows, railings) when I'm done. So far everyone has opted to do their own cleanup to keep the price down. The guy I just did went behind with his lawn mower and it picked it all up.
Do not think you'll need to tarp the house as the paint chips come off real easy with light spray.(only takes minutes).

Hope this helps, Ken

You could also try laying down a roll of screen next to the area where you are working. The water will go through it and the paint chips will stick to it.

Gloria,
If you hold that hose at just the right angle, with the right amount of tension.... well Dennis might clean all those paint chips for you. He He
