A while back when Scott, the Smiths, and myself had vehicles wrecked I said I would post a pic of the wrecked truck. Well..here it is. It really doesn't visually look like two much damage but they totalled it. 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 13,000 miles. Already driving it's replacemnet.

Greg,
I think that between the three of us Jim and Shirley take the prize. Mine looked even less damaged than that, but it was totalled also. The frame was torn behind the front axle and my insurance does not do frames, ever. I am also driving the replacement. I will post pictures of it as soon as I have some.

Scott,

That is exactly why it was totaled... damage to the frame. This is nothing compared to Jim & Shirleys. I am in no hurry to compete either!

Mike,

No, the replacement is a 2001 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Off Road edition with the heavy duty towing package. Black as black can be! I will post a pic as soon as we have it lettered up... I have yet to get it to the sign shop yet.

Okay Greg, I have a couple of questions.
1. Why a half ton? I think that with a trailer that you would want the extra towing capacity of at least a 3/4 ton.
2. Have you heard of a California Duster? My new truck is black, too. It was the best deal I could find otherwise it would have been white with the Arizona summer. Anyway, with a California Duster you run it over the truck every day and it stays pretty clean, especially if yo keep it waxed. I know Iown a fleetwashing business, but I hate to fire the equipment first thing to wash my truck. So I run this Calidornia duster thing over it and remove the dust.

By the way mine is a crew cab Super Duty Ford lariat and 4 wheel drive. It is pretty nice, but I do catcha lot of, mmmm, crap from my customers about having too much money. I just tell them I live in it, too.

Hey Scott,

Don't you mean a Dust-O-Matic, I know you like to say we here in California have more DUST then Arizona does but that is not true.

Greg I have an extra one if you are interested? Cost to you is what it cost to ship, no other charge, just Email me your address and it is yours.

There is a small and large one, never used and comes in it's own case too!

Scott is right also about the 3/4 ton or higher, with all the weight any of you carry the half ton is really just not enough. The difference in the two are not only larger motor but heavy duty tranny, axle, gear ratio, radiator and suspension.

I would also recommand any of you planning on a new truck to make it a diesel, and NO I am not favoring my Dodge Ram over Ford as both are good. I cannot speak about the Chevy/GMC as I am not a fan of GM.

Scott why a 4x4 this time? is it you just like big things or because you go onto a lot of dirt roads and stuff?

Why 4x4? It is the one that I got the best deal on. Besides with the diesel, it does not have an affect on mileage like with a gas motor.

Scott,

With the Off Road package it's pretty close to a 3/4 ton. Towing capacity is 7650 on the one we purchased and 8150 for the 2500 4X4. It rides at the same height as a 2500 series with the heavy duty suspension. Skid plates are mounted under the oil pan, transfer case, fuel tank, etc... Magnum 5.9 L V8 / 355 rear end installed. Okay, okay... my wife liked the truck!!

It pulls the wash rigs without any problems and the price was agreeable so we bought it. No real reason why I didn't go with a 2500 except for the price difference. Now I just have to get step bars for it so I can actually get in the damn thing!

Hi Guys
Hey talking about trucks I really like my Dodge 2500 4x4. Mine came with a 4/10 rear end . The only thing that I did not get was the diesel. To get that I would have had to through in my first born along with the house... Not really, mine is a 99 Intense Blue and we got a good deal on it , I also like the quad doors. It is great for my girls getting in and out.
Some time I will post a pic. Tim

I see how it is, if all else fails blame it on your wife.

I guess I prefer to have the 3/4 ton, besides the 3/4 ton Ford looks better than the half ton, and I prefer Ford's.
As for selling your first born for the diesel. I would bet that you would make up for it in fuel mileage. I get around 14 pulling my trailer. It weighs around 7800 lbs loaded with water, etc. It also has a 10,000 lb. GVW. I got tired of broken springs.

I just got a new truck last week. 2000 Ford (sorry Jon & Tim) F250 4x4. Just had ladder racks installed on it a couple days ago, so it is now in service. The pic is of the first day I used it.....before the ladder racks. The truck also has a snow plow, so no more sittin on my butt when it snows!

I did not get a diesel..........for several reasons......., but mainly because of money. I hope I won't regret that. I didnt want the noise, the added initial expense, and also the need to find a gas station with diesel, and then use a different pump to fill the truck then I use to fill the washers..........

Greg, if not for the cab steps, it would be a bear to get in this truck!

By the way, I have a California Duster in my garage........bought it on an impulse 6 months ago and never used it......I guess I should try it!

Ok you Ford guys just keep picking on us Dodge guys

Now as far as Ford and Dodge go for looks, both truly look nice, Ford does have a more powerhouse look over Dodge now and would even consider one next time around IF I like the way it handles and the deal is better then Dodge. (not saying I am switching, I am a Dodge man)

Now I would think you guys in COLD country would want diesel over gas even it if does cost a few grand more, they cost less in the long run on maintenance.

Thats what she's there for Scott (besides raising the kid and taking care of the house).

I am typically pulling around 5500 lbs as we do not USUALLY haul water. I will fill the tank(s) on site and empty them before we leave.

Next time we all buy new vehicles in such a short period of time we need to work out a discount with a dealer online! I'll buy a Ford...if the price is right. It would have to be a 250 then ... don't care for the looks of the 150 series (why they did that???)

I did find one thing about this truck I dont care for... pushing my race bike up a ramp into the bed is beyond a chore, especially after your done riding for the day. Time to buy another trailer!

Nice truck Mike!!! Nicer than mine even. I bet you love it comapred to that van you had...huh???

Glad to see you got one with the extra cab in the back. I really wish I had the extra space on my truck.

Looks good also with the rig on the back. Now you will just have to get the truck all lettered up.

Good luck with it!

By the way guys...I am a FORD owner also. Love mine!

Mike, Real nice truck!! I have a 97 black Dodge dually 3500 with a cummings deisel engine. I had a ford pickup before that. Ford makes excellent trucks. The reason why I bought the dodge is because I liked the way it looked better than the ford in 97 and also I think the cummings deisel is the best bar none. Oh did I mention that somebody was buying this truck and there deal fell through so I got this truck for $24000 fully loaded except it does'nt have the extended cab. The truck was $32000 then. I got real lucky with that one and it also is a nice write off for my business which I'm sure yours is.
