Hey Cam,

Pricing varies from cities to towns. In my experience you can manage anywhere from 2.50 - 3.75 Canadian dollar. That's where I am anyway depending on the volume and frequency of the work from the customer.

To speed things up for me (I work solo), I use about 2000 psi for soap on and turn my engine throttle down for the rinsing about 1000 psi - 600 psi. I use a wash and wax soap that is self drying and eliminates 80% or so of window spotting. I am experimenting with a powder water softener you can get at any store that I feel will assist in the removal of spots. This I am adding directly into my 525 gallon tank prior to filling.

I average about 40 cars per hour and have had good success with it.
Watch for the heat, the water evaporates fast and you need to pay special attention to black and white cars as they show every fault. I usually run soapy sponges over these during the rinsing process.

Run your wand at high pressure along the bottom half of the car because it takes the dirt from test drives etc......

Hope that helps. You can e-mail me directly if you need anything else.

Chris.

Thanks Chris,
Now my next question; what' s the conversion rate from
Canadian to the American dollar! Just kidding, of course.
Your post was actually helpful. Now, how did you market
to these guys...go directly to manager or did you solicit by
phone, mail, etc. Thanks again! Cam

Initially you ask for the sales managers. (new managers have a seperate budget than the used one).
I never offered free trials and they did not expect them, it looks desperate to me.
Tell them you are putting a unit in (city).. and need to book your days accordingly to secure them a slotted interval. Either weekly or bi-weekly. That lets them know they will be looked after by a pro. Enter into a verbal contract with them that that time is theirs and you need two days cancellation notice from them otherwise they are paying anyways.
If you do a good job and are reliable, up your price after six months, if they walk, they will be dissapointed at the new providers lack of not knowing the routine you and they have developed and will eventually return.:D
It will get to the point where they have given you free reign on the cleanliness of their cars and you will be stylin'.

Hope that helps..

Watch those rocker panels!

I specialize in carlot cleaning!

Cam:
I own Quik Clean High pressure Washing in Burlington, IA. I currently do three seperate car lot accounts. I have two 1 ton trucks with 500 gal. tanks and my washers mounted on the beds. I currently wash between 2000 to 2300 cars per week. I have four employess that work for me, two in each truck. I am getting about$1.50 per car for a spraywash service and $1.75 for a handmitted service.
I personally don't do any washing anymore, I let my employees handle it all now. Altough I started just like everybody else. Washing house on the weekends and whatever else I could clean.
I just happen to know someone that worked as a sales manager and he called and asked if I was interested because they fired their last guy. That was five years ago.
The car lots business is very cut throat!
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you may have!
There's just so much to say and not enough time.

I'm not offended that you have questioned my integrity. 2200 is in-between 2000 and 2300. Dependent on the weather here in southeast Iowa and the inventory's of the dealers I wash, the actual number can vary between 2000 to 2300(I do three different car lot accounts) Maybe I should start be totally specific for everyone. I'm just trying to help people out here with my experience. Have I ever questioned your integrity Bling?

You also inquired about how I pay my employees. I pay by the hour, not units.

Tony, I think the difference as I read it from bling is the 2200 a week or a month? He'd like to know which one is your final answer! Now thats a big difference.

The correct number is anywhere from 2000 to 2300 cars per week. I do three large auto dealers. We operate all week 2 two man crews and I am expecting to hire a partime guy to wash 2nd shift. I don't see where Bling could become confused about the numbers other than on another board that I specified 2200 cars per week. In that post I never posted any specifics, the 2200 was a quick estimate in my head.

tony i am sorry i offended you but i am not questioning your integrity that was not my intent,if you would read your earlier post you said you wash between 2000 to 2300 a month now you saying a week,i just wanted to know is it 2000+ a month are week, man its obvious one of the post is not worded as you intended .you are talking about 2000+ as oppose to 8000+ a month.i know you are not being dishonest on purpose you just have your week and month twisted.again i am truly sorry

Man, I have been out of the fleet wash game along time. Cars washed for .50 to .70 cents

Vans 1.10 to 1.30

Ups trucks 6.50 full detail

Postal 4.00 full detail--- postal is nice now they do pay by credit card. That’s nice.

Just curious how far the prices are off from today’s standards.

Aircraft’s are good moneymakers.

I wash ringling bros. train a couple of times.

Man I have washed some crazy stuff.

Garbage trucks have to be the worst. They paid the best. 95.00 and hour insides to work on hydraulics.

Hey anyone washed anything really crazy????????Any celebrities. Anyone????????

Let's see, I have washed the inside of an ice cream freezer, I am sure that there are crazier things, but I am drawing a blank right now.
As for Celebrities,
Tim McGraw ( no Faith )
Clay Walker ( nice guy, did not wear country clothes off of the stage. Of course, this was just before he got big)
Dwight Sanders ( Nice Porsche)
Bo Jackson ( what a [puke]! )
A lot of the Nascar and Cart drivers.

There are a more, these are just the ones that stick in my mind.

no problem tony,i just washed my truck and i am exhausted, i can not imagine how i would feel washing that many cars, but would not mine the feel of the cash in my pocket.do you have to reclaim the run off?

run off?

No I am not required to collect my wash water, YET! I do have a local EPA guy that I have spoke with and he indicated that I do not have to reclaim my wash water on the car lots. Now if I do a bank drive-thru with chemicals I am supposed to reclaim because of the cleaners and the oil.
