pressure washing;;; self employed!!!!!!
we got into self employement for several reasons have more time on our hands .life is short we really dont need to be busy ALL the time..
i know iknow what in the world does this have to do with getting bubble gum off the sidewalk---------- every thing ..GET A LIFE.
DONT WORK SO MUCH, ENJOY YOUR KIDS, WIFE /husband EVERY THING THAT IS DEAR TO YOU .. AND PUT THAT WAND DOWN FOR AWHILE .THAT DIRT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE.. BUT o we are afraid someone else will get that bubble gum off, big deal people chew gum all the time...
i think you know what im trying to say..

Dan,

You have stated some valid points, and I'm sure most feel the same. My point of view on the subject is time management. The time you are willing to put into what ever is important to you, dictates your rewards. Regardless the order of importance. If handled correctly, you can have the best of both worlds. That's of course if you view things the way I do. I feel that being self employed gives me the freedom to build my business to the level I am comfortable with. Allows me to spend enough time with my family to the point I get on some nerves and plenty of time to network within my industry locally and through the Internet. The most important thing to remember. Everyone is different and everyone has a different outlook on live. If you can manage it to the point of comfort and your own view on success. Whether your definition of success is a strong family relationship, loads of money or finding time to watch TV or a combination of several things. You are defiantly on the right track.

I'll tell you a quick story of mine. I started pressure washing about 2 years ago. I still work full-time, so I just have time on nights/weekends. I started thinking of how to make extra $$ on nights/weekends. First, I started mowing lawns/etc. But priced my jobs way too low. I had an elderly lady that asked me after I looked at her yard could I do it for $15.00 every two weeks. I said yes, it's hard to say no to someone your grandmothers age, right? Well it didn't take me long to find out I was in the wrong business, so I had a small, 1300 psi, 1.5 gpm, electric pressure washer that I had bought at Wal-Mart (I think), I can't even remember now. I used it on my own house, (I have vinyl siding). So I was sitting on my porch one evening a just happend to notice how dirty the house across the street was. So I picked up the phone and called my neighbor if she would like me to pressure wash it. She asks how much? I say about $50.00, She says ok. So the next day I cleaned her house. It took me 5 hours, but hey, I made $10.00 per hour. Also, since you kinda get wet, mists, etc, I stayed cool too. Sure beats mowing grass. Well it all started from there, I got this wild idea that I would start a part-time pressure washing business. I already had a trailer, I had talked to a friend of mine, who does auto detailing and he said definitely get a pressure washer that's going to last. I went to Home Depot and got myself a 3200/4gm machine, the $997.00 special, just put it on my credit card. I got some business cards made and started telling people that I was now pressure washing. I couldn't believe how many dirty houses there was. I went in one sub-division, done one house and ended up cleaning 8 before I left. The money was great, I had a guy helping me, everything seemed to be going so well, but I was never home until late at night, it was really taking a toll on my marriage, but I didn't care, I was making money. I moved out after about 2 months of not hardly talking, I moved back home to my mother's house. ( I was 30 then) After a while, the business slowed, I then had time to think about my life, I started talking with my wife about 4 weeks after I left, we got back together, started going back to church and got in counseling, I almost let my greed break up my marriage. I'm so glad that God saw fit to "slow" me down where I could start spending more time with my wife/child. Now my wife and I go together and wash on the weekends, she helps me set up, holds my ladder, pulls hoses, (I've got to get a reel!), Now the checks/cash goes to her after we leave a job. It's hard work, but we make exta $$ and we enjoy our time together meeting the people whose houses we clean. If you don't remember anything else that I've said, just remember, nothing is more important than a happy home with a good wife and especially Jesus Christ in your life! It's my first time posting, future ones won't be so long!

Dan S,
I agree with Dan, you are definately on the right track!

Larry Staton,

Excellent 1st. post. Really enjoyed reading your story. Could've been twice as long and I wouldn't have noticed, so absorbed I was in reading it. Love a happy ending. Thanx for sharing.

Thanks guys for the great posts.
Some times we need to stop and smell the roses. I too fall into the trap of making money and loose focus . But like Larry said
If we have a good wife and let her know it and keep our eyes upward on J.C. Life will be much happier. God Bless ya all Tim

Very good point. I also agree with Dan (the Man) Flynn that time management is the key. I spend more time with my family than they would like sometimes. But seriously, God First, My Family, then my jobs. My reply to your message is this:

I have known and talked to some of these guys/gals on this board for a long time, and i consider them all a part of my family. I would do anything possible for my power washing family, so when you say, spend more time with your family, Thats exactly what i am doing.

My wife gets mad at me for spending so much time on this thing so we came up with a comprimize. I limit my time to a couple of ours instead of 4 or 5. Then I scramble to this board instead of crusing the web. That is how I fit in so many posts. I don't cheat on you guys I stick to what I like. <IMG SRC="http://comptonsv3.web.aol.com/search_wizard/ART/nuwiz1b.GIF" border=0>

Great reply guys thats what makes this board neat .it seems like we all have the same desires in our heart . i won"t become a preacher here but our family loves the LORD and we also love being self employed. DAN FLYNN well put i understood everything you said.. every body is different ,it scares me to think that if they (people) were all like me this world would be in trouble...
SO LIFE GOES ON... kids get bigger........WIFE..... well i better not go there. have a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Dan,

Like others already said, you come up with these things just when others need them, keep it up.

Now bored, who has the time to be bored!

Reason I went into this business is I was bored from not working, retirment was boring to me.

It is very refreshing to see people in business who are not afraid of mentioning the name of Jesus, so often I have found closet Christians and it's almost that they are ashamed of their salvation.
Thank's for being open after reading this posting it really made me feel part of this Board.
Go for it in His name.
Gordon.

What Washaroo is saying by zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ is he is sleeping or is so bored he wants to sleep or both.

Which means that he has to much time on his hands.

No hard feelings Washaroo, just knowing that if your sleeping you won't be able to reply to Dan for a few month since this was posted way back in June!
