I have a RK21 with about 400hrs on it. Can anyone give any advice on rewraping the coil? It looks like the insulation on both sides has collapsed to the bottom but the two ends look good. The only discoloration is on the bottom of the shroud on the weld seam.

Thank you

That isn't a easy job for one man if he has to manhandle the coil but it be done.

I found it best to lay the wrap on the floor and lay the coil in it,fold it cover the coil and tape it with fire proof tape.Make sure you tape it pretty good b/c it makes it easier to put it back in.Wear old clothes for the job....

400-hrs? That should make it less than 3-yrs old, right?

I would call Delco and see if it is still under warranty...

Are sure the discoloration wasn't casued by condensation, or water getting inside causing the discoloration?

The unit is about 5yrs old but with very few hrs on it. I looked at it again last night and it looks like there is another roll of metal around the coil behind the insulation. (OUTER SKIN - INSULATION - METAL SHIELD - COIL) Could this be the reason Im not seeing the insulation?

Thanks for the responses [white]

The RK-21 (to my knowledge) utilizes a pancake type coil design, this style coil needs an insulation blanket around the coil.

Some manufacturers use a cold water wrap coil design which does not use an insulation blanket around coil.

IE: Alkota, Electro-Magic, All American, ..........

Hi

inreguardes to wrap on the coil where i work we use a metal bander that you band for shipping things to a pallet to holf outer skin together. If its not tight enough just tighten it with the bander, just clip andlock and cut off.Put aleast two bands on it. cat
