Roof Cleaning with an x-jet

Hi guys,

I want to expand into roof cleaning this up comming season, but I won't have alot of $ starting off that I can put into it. I was just wondering if it's possible to do the roof cleaning with my x-jet? If so what chems would i need at what ratios? For houses, mostly siding, I use 2 bleach, and sc in a 5 and sprat it on, let it dwell clean it off and rinse. I know for roof's you are supposed to just let it sit, and I didn't know if the chem mixture i use would be apropriate for this.

Any help/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Yes, you can do it with an X-Jet. I would suggest one that has the screw in tip for light spraying for areas that you are spraying that are close to you. Check with Mark at Easy Clean, he probably sells them, he is on this board and will probably chime in.

For chemicals, right now I use SH12%, water, mixed 50/50, (depending on how dirty the roof is, outside temp, and other variables) and some Dawn dishwashing detergent. I am experimenting with other additives, but this seems to work great.

For roofs though your gonna want something bigger than a 5 gallon pail. The average 2000 sq ft roof takes 30-40 gallons of mix, so you'll be spending more time mixing and diluting than cleaning if you just use a 5 gallon pail.

I have a 225 gallon tank that I mix mine in.

Hope this helps, feel free to call me if you want to discuss more.

Thanks for the info.

As to not undercut anyone, including myself, aprox what should i charge for a roof cleaning? If i charge by sq ft, how do i measure? I could just measure length, and width of house and let that sufice for surface area?

Dave...you most likely will not get pricing posted on this as most contractors are hesitant to post their pricing.

Thanks.

Wasn't trying to snipe prices, was just honestly wondering. I'd much rather be charging more than I should than going around cutting the legs out from the other guys in my area because I should be charging alot more.

I'll give ya a call sometime Doug and see if we can't talk pricing. Thanks for the honesty and info. I'd much rather ya'll tell me that than to have not received a reply at all.

After some research, I might be getting a Delvan system from pressure tek on my tax refund. might go that direction instead.

Thanks,

Dave

That would not account for the pitch. Think of being God (or a giant) and pushing your finger down onto the peak of a roof to flatten it. It would extend far beyond the edge of the walls of the house. There are formulas online for estimating roof squares.

Rates for all scopes of pressure washing differ region to region Dave. Some regions can average $0.15 a square foot where other regions are lucky to achieve $0.03 a square foot.

I would suggest that you survey your competitors. Good to know and network with your competitors.

Not many using x jet for a roof anymore...let along for a house. Dedicated pump or downstreaming are the most popular choices these days.
