Roofs:Bottom-Top or Top-Bottom?

I have a question about roofs. How do you apply you chemical and how do you rinse (top to bottom or bottom to top)?

I would think that the chemical should be applied from the bottom to top to avoid streaks. I would then think that it would be best to rinse from the top down so that you don't have to re-rinse everything and I would also think it would be safer as you are not walking on so much chemical.

What I'm think is... Apply chemical to one half from the bottom up then do the other side. The first side will be dwelling while you apply to the other side, then just go back and rinse.

Is this what you guys do?

We coat the roof from the bottom up. Once the whole roof is coated, we rinse from top to bottom.

I start at the bottom with my chemicals, then I rinse from the top. Depending on the chemicals, it probably doesn't matter in some situations. I've never had streaks, but I've always done it the same way. However you do it, it's always a good idea to start rinsing after the chemicals have sat for a while(according to what you might use). Don't let them sit too long if they shouldn't, but give them time to work...

Why would it matter how you applied them to the side of a house? I have applied, and rinsed, both top to bottom and bottom to top...though my rinsing is usually bottom to top to bottom to top etc... Why would the way you apply chemicals and rinse cause streaking?

Mighty Mike,

I have never done a roof. What psi would you recommend for a composite roof?

Also how much dwell time on the bleach solution you use?

who uses bleach?

B.E ...... use low psi no heat ......just get a bigger nozzel for your p/wer .. call Mark give him your spec's and he can size your p/wer to a lower psi . I drop mine down to 1000 ... with a 40 tip sometimes you can even get away with just a soap nozzel ....

I am going to take some pic's of this HUGE roof Im doing .. I forgot the camera well forgot where I put it and left with-out it But tomorrow I will be a snappin'

having a lil fun .... this is on a church ........ I left it like that untill im done with the rest of the roof ...this will be the last thing I clean ....... Pastor LOVES it !!

which brings me to an idea .... this would be a great advertising tool ... put your name and # on the roof clean the whole roof except the name and # . when the rest of the roof is done take off your name .. You should see everybody looking up ..........

I see you've been playing again, clean alittle here and clean alittle over there.I guess this is a timed job,the more time it takes to clean it the more you make, spot cleaning takes longer lol.Good ideal tho but as fast as I am you wouldn't see it for long, unless I started the job and went home for a day or two.Should have drawed a smiley face or spongebob..lol

Dan:
Great Pictures!

I am putting together a few informational pages on our websites to try to educate homeowners on the various ways available to clean roofs.

Do you mind if I use the picture of you with the surface cleaner?

well as long as you dont tell them that this is not the way to wash a roof. B/C everybody has there own way and the surface cleaner works great if you are careful . You gotta know the pressure, nozzel ... etc......... YOu really need to know what you are doing . I wouldnt tell a "newbee" to try a surface-cleaner on the roof untill he/she knows a bit about it ........ if 'ya know what I mean .

If 'ya want to use it go ahead ... please send me a copy of the page it is on ...... and BTW thank-you for asking ... you can tell you are a professional at this business...

send me an E-mail ......... smwash@pennswoods.net

your e-mail might go to my junk folder and I wont look at it for at least 3 weeks .. I have my e mail sent real high b/c of all the spam and crap .. unless you send it without any advertisment in it . or just give me your e- and I will E'ya .......
