Here are some pics of a rust removal job I did yesterday. Removed rust on 22 light poles at a church here in Kingwood TX.

I used a product called Clear Pink Stuff, it is concentrated so you dilute w water. Spray it on, wait a couple minutes, and rinse it off.

Hey Doug....Where can I purchase this at. I googled it and it did not give me that much info.

Thanks

Is it an Oxalic acid based product ? If so, how much is the product cost ?

We purchase Oxalic acid 50 pounds at a time for $55.00. 55 pounds of Oxalic goes a long way.

Carlos, I ordered it from Power Kleen Corp in Oldsmar FL. 813.854.2648. Jamson Labs ? Power Kleen - Chemical Solutions Sinc Web Site is being redone. But call and ask for Jason, Tell him I sent you. It's the same place I get my additives for my house and roof mix. Unfortunately the Clear Pink Stuff ships haz mat, so it may be pricey to get it to you. I ordered some other items at the same time, plus had several residential and commercial clients lined up for rust removal so the shipping was paid for through signed contracts. That rust is rust caused by irrigation, as you well know, and the clear pink stuff works great. Been using it for years. I was using One Restore for a while but you have to use it straight.

Not sure if it's oxalic Jim. Also not sure of the cost as I havent seen the invoice yet. It's under a 100$ for a five gallon though, and I normally dilute 50-50. I have never used oxalic.

I think I've heard from somewhere that there is a citric acid product that is somewhat effective on rust, but nothing in our experience beats Oxalic Acid.

Get the MSDS sheet on the Clear Pink Stuff, it will provide you with the active ingredients. I'd be surprised if Oxalic isn't the main ingredient.

If Oxalic is the main ingredient, it is far much cheaper to purchase a 50 pound container from your local chemical supply source. 50 pounds will make 80 + gallons of rust remover for you. I've never heard of anyone spending more than $90.00 for a 50 pound container of Oxalic acid. Last time I purchased some here locally I believe I paid about $55.00, maybe more with tax.

But you need to take extra PPE precautions with any Oxalic acid product. Very toxic substance. I (we) use respirators, chemical resistant gloves and goggles when using and/or mixing the product. Also, when mixing the product, the crystals take a long time to dissolve. Best using warm to hot water and a lot of mechanical agitation (paint mixing attachment and a drill is what we use to mix-up 5 gallons at a time).

Thats why I like using this product, I don't have to go through all the mixing procedures, taking time for it dissolve, drill mixers and all that. I just mix this with water, spray and the rust is gone. I have many commercial and residential clients that pay very very good to have the rust removed from there propeties, one of my "premium" services that I offer, along with oil stain removal. Seems to me the extra time it would take me to go through all the procedures with oxalic, plus learning the ins and outs of a new product, etc etc, would not really save me any more over a basically ready to use product. When I find a product that works, and I and my clients are happy, I tend to stick with it unless there is some HUGE cost savings.
