Sealmaxx, has anyone heard of this?

Our market in this area is getting bombarded about a new sealant called Sealmaxx. One distributor, and company applying it in the area. They claim you will never have to seal your deck again, and give a 25 year guarantee on this. They have a web site but doesn't give really much info. Has anyone heard of this product or know anything about it. I e-mailed them for info and have received nothing. I called and they don't want to talk to me unless I want a bid on my deck, which of course I don't, I just want to know what the stuff is and if it really works.

sealmaxx

Sorry it took me so long to respond here, I don't need my deck done, I do decks. What I'm looking for is what is it, I have no recourse against this stuff and people are buying it up if I don't know what it is. I would like to find a way to educate people about it, but I can't because I know nothing about it. If anyone does know I would appreciate any information I could get.

Thanks, Jeff

Has any one ever tried one time wood? www.onetimewood.com They say it last 7 years. My dad did his deck with it 3 years ago and it still looks like the day he did it. My brother used it on his deck last year and I am going to use it on my deck in a few weeks. We can put a man on the moon we have to be able to find a wood stain to last more than 3-4 years.

Caveat Emptor. Neither has enough track record. Seal Maxx I think is junk. I have heard btter things about One Time Wood though.

Seal maxx

Could someone tell me something about Seal maxx besides stay away and it's junk, it's hardly an answer I can give a customer that is asking about it. I'm very seriously looking for an answer to the question what is it, and how to handle customers with questions about it.

Doesn't seal Max petrify the wood like a telephone pole and then make it impossible for any stain to ever be applied again. So if something goes wrong or the color needs changing I heard you were S.out of luck

How about showing your customer this picture? SealMaxx after one year. Fell a little short of the 25 years. How about incredibly bad customer service? That may be due to the contractors they bring on board to sell the stuff but I have heard horror stories and I am in contact with homeonwers around the country on a daily basis. How about, once this product discolors or eventually looks like crap there is no possible way to remove it and the entire deck will have to be replaced? Don't fall into this trap, you will regret it.

Sounds like this... Spray this on your carpet and you will never have to vacuum again. Wash your car with this and you will never have to do it again.

When you do a deck for a customer do you really think it will be kept clean? No pollen no dirt not BBQ grease no dust and no weather wear? Stand on your deck in bare feet when the heat reaches 100 and don't move, do you really think a sealer can hold up against that? Don't wash your deck for a year do you really think no moss or mildew will start to grow? Does your product keep crap out of the cracks to prevent rotting? In a perfect world every deck sealer will work for years... Find that perfect world!

Anyone doing decks professionally knows the elements a deck has to deal with, number one is the lack of care the owner will give to it. One to two years tops is about it, and you better hope it's a product you can maintain, or you just made a small project into a major one, and for what and extra month maybe?

Hey! I used Olympic Natural look redwood on my fir deck years ago! and it looks great today! it's completely protected from the sun and water. I wash it with a hose when needed and bingo looks great. The deck down the road open to the elements looked like crap in one year, same product same application same time applied.

Stick with tried and true and drop anything that states over 2 years and make sure it's stripable, you will do just fine with that advise.\

Explain this to your customer... You will get the job! If you don't you don't want that customer and at least you told him so. (smile)

Thumbs up Ken! No one can touch that! Proof in the pudding, many products do the same thing, Ken has pointed to the major problem with these. The guy's deck is going to look like this till it ripped out. I see this all the time on thousand plus dollar decks! workable is the key....
