Hello !
Has anyone ever heard of this stuff, its called Professional,Water Sealant.
One of my competitors had left a paper describing this product, and the homeowner asked for my opinion. He didnt get the job,so they didnt care but still.
Here is the good part, its a silicone sealer ,clear ,flexibility, seals cracks, one coat .anti-graffiti barrier.Man stated it lasts 5-10 years and $30 a gal.
My thoughts were, first i never heard of this product for decks, which isnt good, second if it was good i would br using it.No sealer lasts that long,it might repell water for 5 years, but its clear!!!!!It would be grey in 6 month, and than what, how in the hell would you clean it with a silicone barrier???What would strip it off?For concrete maybe ,but silicone on decks??What should i do if get a job cleaning one of these crazy mans sealed decks, run,he might have done alot of them,i am glad i took time to educate this homeowner befor he got the job??
What do you all think,i need some input

Forget about it............that would probably not be the best thing for a deck..........it will not allow the wood to breath and it will rot from within. Not to mention it will offer no protection from the UV rays of the sun and graying.

I am with Mike. Bad idea, for Mikes reasons which are all true, plus if you put a non breathable barrier on top of a deck, where the moisture has no way of escaping, then the mildew will form on top of the wood and below the silicon causing unsightly mildew and premature aging of the wood.

Removing the stuff would be next to impossible without harming the wood. Stay away from this guy, and keep educating the customers.

This paper i got states

Perm Rated Professionals cured silicone rubber membrane allows the realese of moisture vapors which may be present within the surface while reamaining completely waterproof to outside liquid moisture. Also unnafected by UV rays,so it wont crack peel dry up or yellow.
Well probably uv rays dont affect it,but if the guy had any sense he would figure it affects wood.

Still silicone on wood raises my hair, this is insane, sounds like a product for driveways.I hope i never take a job and costumers tell me its been done in clear and turn out to be this

Thanks Mike,

Been a crazy Spring. Slowing down now (guess thats good and bad). Haven't had much time to get on the internet, but i would stop in when i had a minute and see what was shaking. Of course, yall are still doing a great job.

Been over at Dan F's alot holding up the post hole diggers while he builds his deck. Would have helped, but those "diggers" didn't fit my hands. It was weird. Anyway, its good to have a little time to help out. Keep up the good work.

Johny, I agree with Mike. However, you may want to contact the manufacturer and get a product description sheet, which should indicate application uses, etc. You could always get a sample and coat a piece of wood and leave it outside and see what happens.
