Snail Mail - A thing of the past?

New Look

Is snail mail a thing of the past for marketing? Would love to hear the opinions from both sides of the discussion. We all know the current plight of the USPS but regardless of their financial health or lack there of it would seem logical that direct marketers would shift the focus from snail mail to internet mail for mail campaigns.

Any thoughts and commentary on this?

Post Cards still work....Also info in envelopes if done differently work also.

Much better than email, get the program I told you about. Nothing will work better than that.

Post cards are great for sure. It takes a campaign of ideas for it all to really work.

With EDDM, you can send letter-size postcards for 14 cents apiece. I haven't done yet but you can imagine the postman will wrap people's mail with it so your piece is very noticeable.

We still use snail mail with post cards etc.. It's been 2 yrs now that I dropped the local town papers which we where doing about 10 zones a week. That was around $480/month. That Lady was the longest person I dealt with as far as advertising. 14 yrs of dealing with her and she was aces.. It's a shame that I can't use her anymore. She calls a couple of times a year and it's sad but I just can't justify using her company any more.. She's losing accounts like crazy and she was always so good for us..

The other print media that I still use is the Yellow pages. They came way down in price and they seem to be dying out also. I haven't pulled the plug on them yet.. 17 yrs now using them.. There on my short list to see if we dropped them soon. They use to cost me about $10,000/yr to advertise with them when they were at there heights but now we get 3 times the amount of advertising thru them and they cost us around $350/month every month.... Have to do my taxes soon and we have to add up our Job receipts to see which came from where and if the YP doesn't add up to at least 4-1for every dollar spent I'm probably going to drop them. They use to be on average 10-1 for every dollar spent for us.. But there dying.
Tough decisions on some of these things.

It's a faxing campaign , most are worried and miss informed about legalities.

Everyone still has fax machines in the commercial world.

Texting apps are also great. Doug I think already using one and nailed a job paying several hundred off a little work.

Email is tough

Tell us more about how you use your faxing Ron.

We've got myfax and have done some faxing with success. We haven't done any to speak of since last spring and it hasn't been high on the prioriity list. I always like hearing great ideas though.

I love the texting idea. I actually downloaded an app a few days ago so I could mass text. Maybe Ill try something with it soon.

I like texting to for quick and easy communication. Its not as formal as email and its very personal.

Chris some things are just trade secrets. Others I just don't want anyone to run off start random faxing and have the FCC show up at the door.

My fax machine where on full tilt today. We added a second machine today. I almost forgot to turn them off. Regulations state a residence can't receive a call after a certain time. We do not fax residents . But with 90,000 numbers in the data base some have changed. So we take no chances

Really have to keep up w the time dont you?

Doug at the time we made those videos you couldn't load a video on the web that easy. Plus DVD players didn't exist in all computers. We had to format them in vcd. It was the first drive after the 4 inch floppys.

That's ok because it's come a long way since Polaroid
