Stain/Seal Nightmare

Please help!!! I recently had my western red cedar home pressure washed and stained, but the guys who attempted the staining/sealing didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. My 1 1/2 story home looks like it has been tie-died! The stain ranges from very light to extremely heavy. I should also mention that there are some areas that have absolutely NO stain. These guys did not use any drop cloths so therefore some of my plants were killed, lots of grass killed and many stains all over my driveway. Is there any way to remove the stain/sealer from the siding? If so, what would the expense be? I can live with the stains on the concrete, but I truly get sick to my stomach when I look at the horrific stain on my house.

One more thing - how do I remove stain/sealer from my windows?

Oh wow. Did you only get a price quote from them? What made you choose the company that you did? Sounds like a whole heck of a lot of problems going on there. I'm not sure any professional would be able to tell you the best course of action without actually taking a look at the house to see what that would be to be completely honest. Sounds rough. Your house can be fixed......the question is the expense and if it's something you are going to tackle on your own. You need to find out (if you can) what their process was and what product they splashed all over. The inconsistency of the stain comes from either bad prep and/or improper application.

Whether or not it will come off your driveway will also depend on what type stain they used. Hopefully your grass and plants will come back. Are they dead dead or just really brown?

That definitely sucks. I feel for you. I guess its a moot point to ask if these guys had any kind of reputation or insurance. Everything has to be stripped off, the wood then pH balanced, probably defurred/sanded and then restained with a higher quality oil based finish. As to an alternative, you could prime the house and then topcoat it with a solid stain (which is like paint and is more subject to peeling)

did you ever think about taking them to court maybe get some of your money back to refix your house.
