Stripping Sikkens SRD

I have a job where a 1 year old Sikkens srd finish has turned black and needs to be removed. I don't know what was the cause to it failing but I didn't apply it so who knows.

I heard somewhere that Sodium Hydroxcide strippers will remove it but I have no experience with Sikkens. This is the single coat sealer and not the 3 coat type.

Has anyone stripped this sealer ?

Thanks Roy

We use HD-80 to strip Sikkens. It's great. You need to neutralize afterwards with an acidic product. We use citrolic acid for that. HD-80 does contain sodium hydroxide, among other things.

Also how new are you at this,hd-80 will do the trick, its a good product, but you must be extremely careful. It will strip everything else
You stated ,i heard somewhere that sodium hydroxide will do the job.It makes me think you have never heard of it before or done it.You might want to hang around lil longer before you take this job.Start out with something easier. Its easy to mess up with such a strong chemical
What are you stripping,a deck?

I'm in Tampa fla and have been around for awhile. I don't use Sikkens or does anyone else that I know of but, someone did on this deck. The owner has the can so I know what it was.

I have heard of HD 80 but don't know who sells it locally. Who is the manufacturer of it. ?

I use Super Decks DeckTergent on everything. Sodium Metasilacate an 8oz to a gallon mix should do it. It will need the wood brightner oxalic Acid when your done.

If the product is oilbased and not waterborn or synthetic oil then you will have no troubles. It sprays well no need for rollers ect... They can burn the wood and leave marks.

Ten years doing just decks in Northern California.

I just came back from doing a test strip on the SRD sealer. It will come off with sodium hyrox. stripper. Used both new again and stripx L both which are the same except the stripx gels up.

Stripex will do it

If you need HD-80 call Beth @See Dirt Run.When i got that i quit doing test spots, saved me time.I felt like i have a tool that will do most jobs.I would use whatever always worked for me and if i had a problem ,hd-80 was a great backup.
I was stripping something unknown and i couldnt get it off.I had to quit for couple of days before i got HD-80,now i have no worries,i know most likely i can remove it without testing.

Have Fun
