I'm new and doing this part time with hopes at doing this full time real soon. I've been going door to door handing out my business card. What else can I do?? I didn't want to do any mailings, but maybe I'll have to. What I'm focusing on is retail establishments and new construction. Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated.
Thanks!!!

Hi Tony,

For one you should not limit yourself to just commercial. That's of course, if their is residential market in your area.

As far as commercial, It is a liitle harder to get. You are doing the best thing, by knocking on doors. You should always make it a point to follow up with calls, letters and revisits.

Mailing can be good as well. Craig from PW Unlimited said that he has faxed a mass amount of commercial business. It seem to work well for him. Telemarketing may be an option.

You are on the right track. It just takes time to build a business. You have to stay active everyday. And it should start to come your way

It is called the rule of sevens. You are more likely to make any sale after seven types of contacts.
They can be:
[*]In person
[*]phone
[*]mail
[*]door hangers
[*]E-mail Contacts
[*]Any other time when your name or company name gets mentioned

Hi Tony,

The way I generate business here in the UK is to use leaflets, Letters to Estate Agents, Pubs Clubs etc and of course recommendations.

Most of my work comes from the domestic side (residential), with a good percentage recommending me to family & Friends.

One of my commercial jobs (a Chinese Resteraunt) thought he'd give my business a boost last year by transposing part of my leaflet into chinese and putting it into the local wholesale warehouse, got another 4 Jobs from that.

Good luck.

Start a photo album with some before and after photos . Show them when you make a cold call .When I started I did free job For a Store front thet everyone recognized in my town and took a picture of my rig and truck in front of the business . I put that photo and there business card on the front page of my album. People look at that and say hey if they trust you then surely I can. Actually The realtors and property managers I do go in the front of the book. have them look at the album you can do half of a relatives drive way or siding. take a photo, so folks can see the amazing difference. Dress nice and proffesional and get ready buddy because it will take off. remember 50.00 to 80.00 an hour
