SUNTEC fuel pump

'Gentlemen, I've got a question on a Beckett 12V burner fuel pump on a typical Hydro-Tek 3505 pressure washer. It's the standard SUNTEC diesel fuel pump used on most Beckett burners. On my original fuel pump, I bled the pump with the bleeder valve just like you would bleed a brake caliper except I bled it quite a bit longer; got all the air out. Then, I opened up the outlet fitting that goes to the burner, turned on the switch to the motor and and no oil, no pressure out that side? 'Ordered a new pump (since my original one is 12 years old) bled it for a good 1 1/2 minutes and still, no oil from the outlet side? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Thanks or your reply, Douglas. My system worked fine all along without a water separator. I do have the Alkota Xtreme Performance filter, a paper element filter with the clear plastic bowl on the bottom. My fuel pump is "pulling" fuel in (filling up the filter with fuel) but not pumping it out the outlet port.

Update; problem solved. 'Out of options and without any helpful tips from SUNTEC (they actually do not have a tech line/help) and the Beckett factory, I decided to remove the Alkota Xtreme Performance fuel filter (as per Douglas Hicks comment) and go with a simple, clear plastic, automotive style fuel filter and all hell broke loose. Bleeding the system was solid and consistant (instead of kind of "foamy") and I immediately had vapor coming out of the burner fixture. The burner fired right up.

Observation: My Alkota fuel filter looked brand new, both the filter element and the clear plastic bowl that filled up quick when the pump (burner) switch was turned on. There was never any sign of dirt or any foreign particles?

Douglas Hicks: Thanks again for the hot tip!

Probably sucking air.

We have seen numerous problems, where someone had drained water bowl through drain cock
and then not closed the drain cock / valve properly and it was sucking air.

Also frequently when changing filter elements the black gasket, or more frequently the red
0-ring is left out then fuel pump sucks air not fuel.

Looks can be deceiving is this drain valve open or closed?

Victor,

Actually the above picture illustrates the valve in the open / drain position.
It will suck air if you try to run burner in this position.

Every once in a blue moon the casing will have a hair line crack in it also that will suck air....happened to me once. Couldn't figure it out. Took it to Marks shop and his tech's had it figured out and fixed before I finished my first cup of coffee!!
