Supply Hose Reel Restrictive?

Christopher

I have been wondering if the hose reels really restrict the flow because the inlet/outlet on most of the brands are 3/8", 1/2" or 1" so the 3/4" is not common on the major brands.

My supply hose reel has the 1/2" inlet/outlet with a reducer bushing on the inlet/outlet for the 3/4" for using 3/4" hose.

I am wondering if you should go up to the 1" inlet/oulet for more flow because there are jobs that seem to have good pressure/flow but I am thinking that the hose reel inlet/outlet might be restricting.

Do you think it would be worth it to modify/convert a 1/2" hose reel for more flow or buy the larger 1" capacity or is it not worth it?

Just trying to figure out how to get more flow to the tank but without the hassle of connecting/disconnecting a jumper to the hose reel (not using the insides and swivel of a hose reel, just using it for storage) and to the tank for each job.

I am working on a bid for a chain of stores that would mean between 4-8 per nite if I get the job and do not want the helper forgetting to connect/disconnect the jumper if I decide to go that way.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

A 3/4" or 1" inlet hose reel would definitely be less restrictive,
other considerations are waht id inlet hose you are running
and what length.

Cox, ReelCraft, and Steel Eagle have the larger id reels.

Thanks for the info Mark.

I am running 3/4" hose for supply to the tank. I have 100' on the hose reel but need at least 200 to 250 if possible with no restrictions or size changes if possible.

I did not look at the Cox because of a lot of friends telling me that their paint wears off fast, welds have broken and the handle or swivel is defective in a few that were new.
I talked to a few guys and said that they would not buy that brand again as they got the runaround when calling about the problems so that is not an option for me.

I forgot about Steel Eagle and Reel Craft. I am not looking for electric reels but wide so they hold a lot of hose and if possible stacking them to take up less room on the side of the trailer.

Can you pm me prices Mark?

Thanks.

Chris,

I will look up prices for Steel Eagle & ReelCraft
and get you some reel prices.
(When I get to the office)
Are we just looking for one supply reel, or do you need a
HP reel also?

What brand reels are you using now?

Right now I am just looking for a price because I will not be able to get anything until next month but I was thinking just a low pressure hose reel.

Do you think that there is a noticeable difference between the 3/4" and 1/2" for flow to a tank? I am thinking now of just using the 1/2" hosereel and maybe instead of the 3/4" hose, just using the 5/8" to save room and maybe more will fit on the hose reel and give me what I need in length.

What do you think?

Thanks.

I wouldnt go 1/2 inch thats for sure. No less than 5/8 and if your really after maximum flow, go with 3/4". I notice a significant difference between a 1/2" hose and a 5/8" hose. I have both. Takes alot longer to fill or empty my tank with the 1/2" hose. And thats without a hose reel.

I was wondering about this too. Most supply reels I've looked at were 5/8". I figured on getting 100-200' of 5/8" hose. If your using customer water supply, most residentials are only 1/2". (or closer to 3/8" ID is it's CPVC pipe) I guess you would gain more inline storage volume with a longer, larger diameter hose??(right?)
