Have you downloaded and read the guidelines and stipulations you have to meet just to submit a bid to get underpaid by the USPS? The entire industry needs to boycott this solicitation just to get them to open their eyes!

caroli , so you washed for the usps. what made you run off thanks garry.

I said they want to pay $7, there is no way I would do it for that. Thats why I have no USPS accounts. Yes 25-30 is a feasible number in ideal situations. However they want to move the truck/van to a wash area were the water is contained. They also only want to have 1 or 2 drivers on duty. I can wash faster than they can bring them, with turnaround time, setup, recovery etc... you would not make 25/ hour very easily.
who is they ? is they a postal worker who is a driver on duty ? thanks garry

Gary there trucks are clean when we leave and we take the wastewater with us. Do you tell them that they processed and delivered the mail to fast? You’re in the right ballpark with the price. 57 units is a medium size fleet and no way should it take 3 days to wash.

No - we read the specs, etc... for the rules on bidding. Our company had no desire to try to bid on a money loser.

Boycott all you want I will take more of these locations. You need to have equipment that is built for speed and quality. I think we average about 60 - 80 LLV's per hour with a two-man crew. Do the math its good money/per hour but that’s what we are set up for and that’s all we do. It is just like the companies that wash cars at dealerships. I have seen 3-man crews one washing and two hand drying and you know that the are getting $1.50 - $3.00 per car.
eric, it must be you and your wife is the two-man crew. If i put an add in the news paper looking for a truck washers and told that they would wash 30 trucks an hour they tell me go jump in the lake. thanks garry

see i was thinking of doing ups, dhl and fedex but if they told me 7 a hour i would say yes, then i would just spray their trucks with water at a certain psi. I wouldnt even use any chemicals..... hell why would i at such a low price.

Gary its not a one man and a woman show here. We have a crew of 10 guys washing, 2 part time mechanics, 1 sales/marketing, 1 girl for billing, an owner who is here Monday - Friday and myself to oversee all operations. Take a look at our web site this is not out first go around. Our guys are paid very well 100% of medical is paid, paid vacation so you get a lot of loyalty and hard work out of them when you treat people right. We do not just rinse things off everything is soaped scrubbed or two stepped if needed. I can just do things more cost effective than most. We cover a large area and have trucks all over at all hours of they day. You buy your soap in a drum or 1 kit form I buy it by the pallet, and so on and so on. How long have you been doing this?

I tell my guys how fast we need to get a job done after they are hired. They always think I am nuts. Then we get going and even new guys can beat the rate. If I remember right, our high was 50 police cars, exterior only, in an hour. That was with 3 people and 2 of them were pretty new. It is all about developping a system, and not letting preconceived notions get you down.

scott, how much do you pay your employees ? do your employees stay with you, or after one year quit. I have never found a employee that will work on ther own. thanks garry

Some stay, some don't. Right now my longest guy has been with me for 10 years, off and on. The current stretch is about 2 years. One guy has been with me for 7 years, and another has been with me for about a year. The rest are more short term. 6 to 8 months.
The secret is not the pay. The secret is that they know what I expect, and don't beat on them constantly for better performance. It also helps that they hate having the old man out there and out working them. I am easily old enough to be the father of all of them except one, and will still work them into the ground. So they do know what the expectation is.
As for pay, they start at $9.50 an hour, and go up as they get useful. I tell them that if they are only worth minimum wage, I can't afford them.
