I was wondering what sealer you are all using.I usually use an oil based sealer but once in a while I switch to water based to give my lungs a break.I wear a mask but often find myself inhaling overspray and it is starting to bother me.I also found that water based is easier to clean up any overspray and with an airless I have more control of the spray.

Water Or Oil

I myself voted the 50/50 or other ratio because I occasionally use water based as I explained before.

50/50

As you said, primarily using oil based, but will use a water based when the customer insists despite all the encouragment they get in trying to change their minds. My lungs need a break every so often also. Have found out that the extra time it takes in set-up to protect against drops/spills/overspray pays off. Never enough time in a day to get what has to be done - done:cool:

My favorite stain/sealer at this time is TWP. However, when a customer requests a clear, or natural, I have been using Olympic Natural Plus with good success. I find it more conveniant to use products that I can get locally from a brick and morter store. Buying products thru the internet, and having to wait for them to be shipped is iffy, and my scheduling is too tight. That may cause me to miss out on some good products, but that is my opinion.

I forgot to mention that both TWP and Olympic are oil based, which I find holds up better, and believe it or not, is easier to strip and refinish at a future time.

Oil sealer

I hate masking, and I hate breathing the spray. I only spray lattice if it safe and fences.I wear a high quality double filter respirator, properly fitted. I sealed a raised 12 x 20 townhouse deck, no steps in 2 hours the other day by brush. Windy as hell. I use the "no spraying" as a sales tool. But charge more.

Hey guys, I'm not a frequent poster, but I feel obligated to comment on those of you (like me) who use oil based sealers. If you're not using a respirator designed to protect your lungs from inhaling the fumes, please consider starting. If your lungs bother you, please take that as a signal from them that you shouldn't be inhaling the fumes. I admit that at first it was an adjustment to get used to wearing my respirator... but you know what - I wear it for all phases of the restoration process, and most of the time, I'm not even aware that it's on - but when I remove it for a break or a drink... wow am I aware that it's off. You only get one set of lungs... take care of them. Dave Perry, Pro Seal Deck CARE.

Johny, I'd have to look at the model number but it's a 3-M with disposable filters, so I carry a supply of them. It's not top of the line, and I have replaced the elastic straps several times all around during the season, but it did the trick. I'll get a new one for next season though - it got quite a workout this year... and still has a few weeks left to go. Dave, Pro Seal Deck Care.
