Wayne Burner Issue

Ok here is the problem. I have a 12 volt Wayne burner, when I turn the burner on I get a think black smoke. I check the transformer no spark, get a new one same problem. I check the fan, the fan is slow to start. Take the fan off touch wires to battery runs fine. Check the wires to the fan volts ok. I clean all the stuff inside blower, I can't figure it out!! Could it be a fuel issue?

Black burner exhaust smoke usually indicates:

a. Too much fuel: Fuel pressure too high.

b. Not enough air: Improper air fuel mix, possibly caused by low voltage or bad blower motor.

c. Low voltage will cause slow rpm of blower motor resulting in improper air / fuel mixture and poor combustion.

From what you have described, I suspect you have a blower motor or fuel pump problem.

Check and see if the fuel pump shaft turns freely, if not this could cause drag on the blower motor, which would
in turn cause the blower motor & fan to turn slowly this would result in black exhaust smoke. If the burner motor
is slow too start and the fuel pump turns freely, I would suspect burner motor.

If you like call me it is 5:23 AM here in California, I will be at the shop by 7:00 AM.[whatup]

Chad,

I had a problem at one time with huge columns of black smoke coming out and the strong smell of diesel. The diesel was coming out the bottom of the burner. The problem was I had a slow leak at a connecting which was causing the pump to emit diesel into the chamber that flooded/saturated the igniter in the chamber and the diesel never fired (hence black smoke and fuel buildup).
Your situation may be completely unrelated.

Ok so here is the update, the fuel pump turns smooth no problem, but the fan on the other hand. When I turn the fan there is 2 spots that are hard to turn. So I thinking fan motor, so I'm going to get a new fan, change fuel filter and lines and give it a tune up. Thanks Mark for your help
