yard sighns

This year i lost 2 yard sighns,or they got stole to be exact or confiscated or removed or whatever happened to them.

Last week i had a job in subdivision i had never been to before.House was on the dead end street so i didnt bother posting a sighn.
Run out of chemicals, went to the store and on the way back ,what the heck ,i put out my sighn 100 yards from the entrance. On the way back, sighn gone!!!

This wasnt like ordinary subdivision, usually there is an entrance and somebodys yard
This one, entrance and about half a mile on country road before you see the first house.
Like i said it wasnt somebodies yard or land, just woods and bushes,no development

Who is responsible for taking them down, city officials or Some old fart who has nothing to do,drive aroung 5 mph ,smoke a cigarette and look around.

I would like to hear from you guys what are the regulations for unsolicited advertising.I just left it there few hours,i know better now.

The sigh before that got took out of my costumers front yard while i was in the back.I believe lawn guy took it because he was too lazy to go around it.

Some towns, cities and villages don't allow it. Mine does not. You right about all. Sometimes in the officials or the public works department. Sometimes it's some dork that has nothing to do with anything Regardless of his age. He's your typical cop chasers.

Follows them around on his ten speed until he gets a Yugo. You know the type. he has the scanner tapped to his bike. :)

One time when I lived in the south suburbs of Chicago. My wife put a garage sale sign up on a pole that happened to be across the boarder on a Chicago city pole.

We got a $95 ticket in the mail. I would love to know who that was. All the crime in any city and someone sends us a ticket. Needless to say that garage sale cost more to run than we made.

Great point Mike,

But do you think this guy follows him around and waits for a sign to be posted. Maybe it's a combo. But I bet you're right.

Signs,Signs,Where are the signs?!

Last year 10 signs gone. This year12 and counting.I already know of one competitor ,er KNUCKLEHEAD,not competitor. Some people actually take them for the stands and use them for their signs or get their signs cheaper because they don't need the posts. I actually have picked up signs from a property and the post be gone.Locally we had a story in the paper about this about 6 months ago.I have figured this is just part of business these days. I would rather they take my sign than my estimate , which I caught a "born again" competitor doing this year. This competitor has nice trucks, advertising, and been in business for 26 years(so HE says).I had a very pleasant conversation with him,as did the customer, and basically stated that he was unethical and if he truly believed he was so religious that his punishment was coming but, that if it ever happened again he would certainly need GOD'S help!I did so very professionally though even though this guy was certainly a test!
Unfortunately when people ask "why is your price..." you need to figure in such costs, its just part of doing business.

I had one job on a major road around here, and I left the sign there for over two weeks..........every time I went by, the sign was laying on the ground..............at least they didnt steal it!

Everett, I guess you need to start using those disposable signs that are worthless to anyone else.

Or get some pole climbers and put them up higher! I saw a guy the other day walk up to a pole real fast. Then he looked around like he was going to rog a bank. Next thing you know he's 20 feet up the pole put his sign up.

You guys won't believe this but they are the disposable ones!
We order them 100 at a time and get a great rate, same with the posts because we are buying by the case. The problem is for others who buy smaller amounts they might buy 10 signs and to save $100 they take your posts(they charge about about $7-$10 per post). We do use a little stronger post that doesn't break to easy. Maybe I could get a permit and pour footings and put out pole signs, nah!I actually stopped using the expensive metal signs for just this reason.
Also, landscapers KILL my signs. I wish they had as much regard for my signs as they do theirs.

The sighns i lost were $50 a piece,i need to get cheaper ones with out a stand,on too wires ,like the ones for elections and gamble with them
Why does nobody bother sighns with homes for sale. Both times there were sighns right beside mine, said house for sale

hmmm reckon they would steal PVC pipe too,you could make a stand to hang it in, put it together take it apart type frame, fill the feet of the stand with ce'ment.

Put another one up, go down the block and turn around and WAIT, when you see who it is go after them.

Now before you do that find out if the signs are legal to put up, if so I would turn the guy in and put a stop to the stealing of personal property.

If not legal forget it since it would come back in your face.

The guy i used to work for drives around all day doing estimates and fooling with other peoples advertisement, taking signs etc. When i started my own business he went crazy. The original name of my business was sure kleen. while my truck was being built he went to the distributor who was building it, same that built his, and video taped the lettering, sent it to prosoco, need i say more. he would rip down my flyers take my business cards, etc. He started cussing out customers that went with me over him. Dont bother me much these days guess he relizes i'm here to stay and he can't do a damn thing about it. the threats on his personal well being i made may have also helped....lol...

Wait a minute...... the original post mentioned yard signs. So I assume they are in the front yards of your customers, which is private property. I don't see any reason why yard signs like that can't be placed while a job is in progress. I also can't imagine a competitor going up on someones front lawn and swiping a sign.

Around here it is fairly common to see yard signs while windows are being replaced, roofs being done, concrete replacement, etc.

Now signs tacked to poles, or placed in pubic areas, thats a different story.

they could be easily taken if left overnight. When I do a deck, I place the sign in the yard when we start cleaning, and remove it when we are done sealing the deck...........so its there for a couple of nights.............vulnerable.

I think it just like the "INSURANCE" thread. You can't,no, shouldn't waste your time worrying about others because there will always be some "knucklehead" out there doing one thing or another that is unprofessional and unethical. What they do is educate us on how to deal,or not deal with them.I believe in time this behavior catches up with them.Bottom line is they"ll always be there!

I also have had signs taken from customers yards. Found some being used for a garage sale at end of street. They took them and covered them with paper for their garage sale. Also have found some where they had taken turpentine or something and tried to erase the name, then used vinyl lettering for their own. The problem on these was the fact that the sun had faded my lettering so I could still see it slightly. Needless to say the contractor paid me for the signs, and for the ones he still had in the back of his truck. Then I also called a cement contractor friend of mine to get his that I seen in the back of the guys truck. Hmmm wonder what happened there since it was last week. LOL
