15yr old oxidation - will it shine?

Straight Shot

Hey everyone,

New job -

One of our customers has a very large metal building they want washed. It has about 15yrs of oxidation. Red, if color matters?

Anyway - is there a process or cleaner(s) that can remove oxiation and add or regain some shine?

We are using heat and have plenty of machine.

During a test run, we have tried a Limonene product, it seemed to remove most of the oxidation and chaulkyness, but the metal was still very dull.

Oh yea - I tried searching the network but wasn't too succesfull.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!!!!!!

Hello Christopher,

We depend on chemistry to remove oxidation. Usually need to apply a very strong solution and brush. Sometimes we can get a positive result with an alkaline detergent/degreaser. Many times we need to use an acid. Apply, brush, dwell, rinse.

The shine may return if there is good paint under the oxidation. There are products that you could apply to make it shine if the paint will not. Another problem is that we have had some buildings that had so little paint left after we removed the oxidation that they needed to be repainted.

We always test buildings before bidding. Remember to test two or three different sides!
