Business Card Design

Yeah my cards are flimsy but I feel they are sufficient. Most people just trash cards after a while anyways. There are other quality printing card paper at office depot that is just as good as the ones u buy at the printers.

As for kazaa being spyware, that is true, but I do have norton internet security which prevents a lot of those unwanted programs from downloading and distrupting my files.

Kazaa has just about every software program out there becuase it is the most widely used file sharing application. Therefore u have a better chance to find the programs u may need. Even mp3's and movies.Downloading quick books is great for a small business also.

You only get 200 color pages from a cartridge? Wow, if that were the case I would have to buy a new printer cartridge every 2 months. Luckily I havent had that problem. Thanks for the help.

mik788,
Dont take any of this criticism too personal. What we are trying to do is be helpful. Maybe not in the most sensitive way .:p But you are a grownup and can take it, I hope.

About Kazaa, get KaZaA Lite , much better.

Have a good one....... GO fishin' or somethin'.

Everything you get from Kazaa is in effect pirating, or stealing.

There was an article in the Detroit newspaper today mentioning that there is going to be alot of scrutiny over who d/l what, and that several hundred lawsuits are planned to set an example for those who steal music and software.

Many s/w companies will gladly give you a demo package to try out their s/w for a limited period of time. That is the best way to check out and find what you need.

So let's review here......stealing s/w off the internet, and printing cheesy cards. Sounds like somebody just doesn't want to spend money to legitimately grow a business.

Thanks, Tony, for saving me the time to type all that out. Took the words out of my mouth.

Sure, you can print cards yourself, but the bottom line is that the purpose of a business card is to tell a prospective customer who you are, and how to contact you. If you hand them a flimsy, possibly smeared, home-made card, you're sending them the message that you are not an established, reputable business. That also applies to having many styles of cards...You want to establish a look for your cards and other advertising that is consistent, so that you create name recognition.

What you're doing with this amazing software package can be done in MS Word or any one of dozens of other software packages. In fact, I believe Avery includes software with their business card stock.

I don't believe for a minute that you're getting 2500 pages out of one ink cartridge, even if you're just printing b&w. Not unless you have maybe a .5% coverage.

anyway.....just my .02 worth. You might want to try listening to guys who have been there and learn from their mistakes. You will make less of your own that way.

Oh, and as far as Norton, I'd lose that. For spyware, you can download better software for free, without stealing it. Lavasoft's Adaware is a good one, and there's another called spybot. Both are good programs.

For internet security, try Zonealarm. That's also free, and can be downloaded.

Software sharing (or stealing) whatever u want to call it is ok with me. (nobody is going to jail over it.) If u cant sleep at night cause u think ur stealing, dont' download anything. I did hear about those companies starting lawsuits for the people who share their files. Just don't share with anyone and you won't have to worry about that. Get all the software free while u can becuase it will be much harder in the future. I dont think God will strike u down for downloading software on the internet. If u would rather pay $500 for some software so be it.

If u would rather go to the store and spend $40 on cards that is cool. Like I said, your card will be in the garbage after a week or two anyways. Cards are 80's technology. You guys are 21st century businessmen. Nobody cares what the card is printed on or if the ink is raised lettering. All they care about on the card is wether or not you have something on it they are interested in buying. It's obvious you dont give people a smeared card either.

where do u put a card when someone gives it to u? It usually goes in my wallet for about a month at max and when my wallet gets to thick, I clean it out by throwing most of the contents in the trash. People look at a card once and if they arent interested, they wont look at it again. Do u people thing they are amazed at the ink quality and they stare at it for hours?

Dont take any of this stuff personally guys. This has been a great topic so far I think.

P.S I'm sure one of u guys out there will say something like "Oh i heard of this one guy going to jail for sharing/stealing software. "
I'm sure u have but it's very very very rare that it happens.

I can get 5000 cards full color on both sides, meaning you can put pictures or what ever else you want on them. They come on heavy stock paper with a gloss finish.

$75 bucks

Cards are often your first chance at making a good impression.
They are so cheap to have professionally made, why be cheap?

Mike:

Of course software stealing (or sharing, whatever u want to call it) is ok with you. You're the one benefitting from it! If you were the software vendor who had spend your money to develop a software product, you might just have a different take on stealing.

As far as no one caring what your car looks like, keep telling yourself that. The impression the card leaves is important, just as it is with a phone book ad. I'm much more likely to call someone with a larger, more professional ad than I would be to call someone with a cheap one line listing.

I suppose you'd try lettering your rig or creating your own magnetics also? I mean, who cares if you have a cheap looking rig?

I have a high quality card and I pay around $250 per 1M and I always get comments on my card-they remember the card even over the years. This last printing I went to a green from a blue, just for a change and I regret the change. People still like the card.

Its a old saying-give them a good looking card and they will save it-or first impressions last.

I would like to bring the price down. In the long road it is cheap advertising even at $250

Using Keith at KBK Graphics to do my design I never looked back. He has a company (I think it is overnight prints) that does very thick, highly laminated, double sided full color cards. The resolution is outstanding. I think I paid $60 for a thousand of them.
