I have only did maybe 6 houses in 8 years of business .. One of them being my own,

AND out of those 6 I would say TOP down was the only way to wash ..... control the weep-holes

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS APPLY SOAP ECT. FROM THE BOTTOM UP...
WHY ? TO PREVENT STREAKS. RINSE FROM TOP DOWN. YOU SHOULD ALSO BE TRYING TO HIT THE FACE OF THE SIDING /BOARDS. STAND FAR ENOUGH AWAY SO YOUR NOT SQURTING DIRECTLY UP AT THE SIDING AND THE WEEP HOLES WON'T BE A PROBLEM. YES YOU HAVE TO GET THE BUTT EDGE OF THE SIDING, THIS WAY WILL WORK. AS MUCH AS YOU CAN TRY TO BE 90DEG. TO THE SURFACE. SUDS MCKENZIE, OWNER QUALITY HOUSEWASHING SINCE 1987

This question is like asking which is better.......Chevy or Ford? To each his own.

Personally, I apply cleaners from bottom to top and wash from top to bottom.

house's are covered by meny diffrent materials.
Diffrent contractors use diffrent cleaners.
Diffrent contractors use diffent methods of applying chem.
Some contractors use very strong cleaners to clean gutter's.
Some shoot gutter cleaner some brush gutter cleaner.
Sometimes you have 2 houses close together and cant stand back enuff to apply from bottom to top without getting cleaner into weep holes.
So i change my last post to "it depends on the situation"
I will say vynal sideing was NEVER MENT TO HAVE WATER SHOT UP AT IT. NOR THE SOFFIT.

Interesting. Mike you wash alot of houses don't you? I don't, I wash some commercial walls from time to time & occassionally a home for a friend or family but nothing much. I had "assumed" the correct way to wash would be:

Apply Chem from bottom to Top (Always) - This is to aviod streaking from runs.

Wash from bottom to Top, - this way when you are washing you are actually working your washer area with your soap still there.
Would this be wrong thinking?

Then apply the final rinse.

That is the way I always did my washing when I was in the wash business.

Soap from bottom up, then rinse from top down.

CODY YOU HAVE IT RIGHT...ON A NORMAL HOUSEWASH WE RINSE TOP DOWN. ON A CEDAR HOUSE OR ROOF WE PUT CHEMICAL(NEW AGAIN) ON BOTTOM TO TOP. WASH BOTTOM TO TOP. AS YOU STATED. NORMAL JOB I THINK IT'S MORE INPORTANT TO GET THE CHEM. ON BOTTOM TO TOP.THOUGH YOU HAVE A GOOD POINT .

I always apply chem bottom to top wash from top to bottom on most finishes and I also agree to bottom to top on wood walls. I was on my way to my job and noticed a contractor applying soap top to bottom and his friends or helpers were rinsing. They were rinsing up and down totaly against the grain in spraying directly into the weepholes, lol I have never seen that before and the job shows their skill level. This morning I went by it and it was streaked all to hell and patchy looking. Awful job really, this afternoon I noticed home owner running inside when I stopped at the light and came out with pen and paper. If i wasn't in a hurry to get to my next appointment I would have stopped but she will be calling soon I feel, if not I will stop by and talk to her.

Cody,

There are valid arguements from washing from the bottom to top...........most notably the fact that your chemicals don't get washed away before you get there.................but in real world experience, I've never found that to matter.

I always wash top to bottom. I'm a believer in doing the hardest thing first, in this case, the top. I've never noticed any problems with my results from doing so.

bottom to top
top to bottom........ even that can cause an arguement ..

the truly BEST way to answer this is >> get out and do it your self ..draw your own conclusions. do a house top then one house bottom .

Mike Smith , thats a prime example of somebody probably throwing a p/wer in there trk. and calling themselfs a contractor

If you read say directions on clean cargo, they tell you bottom to top, avoid streaks. Very unprof. to take matters into your own hands. and say I'll do it my way.

PW's are like painters, anyone who can pick up a paint brush is a painter, and conversly if you have a PW'er your a pressure washer?
I get more work from theses guys, cleaning up thier messes. I am self taught from the early 80's when there was no school, no support, no web. I learned by trial and error. And, I made it 28 yrs. I started hood cleaning in my area, trained 4 guys and put several out of business, because they were clueless. I put sparkle wash in thier place, waving a long wand around. If you fail to take advice from us who really know and have been there/done that, your a fool. This board is here for you to get advice, not offer poor advice, unprofessinal advice. Your going to get some poor guy into the crapper and fast. Either you KNOW or you don't. Offering advice as to go top down is one point well made. Do what you must, but let the pros offer advice.
