Muffler to loud?????

I had a guy come over to my job site and he stated that my pressure washer was to loud. It was about 9:00pm and I was soon going to be done by 10:00pm. He told me he was going to call the police if I did not stop at that moment. I said I would do him a favor and call myself. I found out I was not in any violation of any laws at all and the policeman said if he (the guy) did not like the noise he can move. This got me thinking!!!!!!!!! Is there away to install a quieter muffler? I would have to cut the pipe and weld it. Could I use a small tractor muffler or extend the muffler pipe about 3 feet? It is a 13 hp Briggs It's on a cart with wheels. Thanks for any input! Jaime

I am sure you can. Go to your local power washers shop and ask. I had the same problem.

That was until I put my unit inside of a enclosed trailer. Much better and I face the opening away from any buildings I think might have a pain in the ass in it.

These are the issues we deal with once in a while. My crews start at 11 PM and some of my restaurants are near people trying to sleep. My units are in vans and they tend to muffle somewhat. We had one unit in a large steel trailer and it sounded like a base drum. You problem is that you ran ino a jerk and the officer did right by you. Just take it one at a time and deal with it.

We have our unit in an enclosed trailer and have had no one make any comments on the noise. It is muffled pretty good in there I guess. NOW,,,,,my motorcycle is another story...

I have heard of guys installing automotive mufflers with great success. You might try your local muffler shop. :!: :s:

Gosh you guys,

always complaining about LOUD NOISE!!!

Sure is nice being half deaf!! My only problem is I do hear my machine and it has no muffler, yet I am sure it is much louder then what I hear, only been asked once to shut it down but it was like 5am and had to finish job before market opened at 7am.

Ducts Unlimited uses hydraulic pumps on their pressure washers. Some areas in Chicago have very strict noise rules. By using the vehicle engine to power a hydraulic pump which delivers power to the PW, the PW engine is eliminated and so the noise problem is eliminated.

I have been told that Ducts Unlimited has went back to the vans and has pulled out of the direct drive units. The cost of the units were out of line. The cost of operation being high and the sound level still was far from being silent. So they are back to the vans-from what I have been told. Working at 3AM you will wake someone up regardless of what you do or what kind of gadgets one has.
