Pump Up Spayers

I am so tired of replacing pump ups. If it's not one thing it's another. I thought I had a good one. Solo 2 gallons. Had a nice screen in the tip to prevent cloggs. I had it a week and when pumping it up the pump part broke, it would not create pressure.

What are you guys using? What kind of luck have you had? I use mine for chemicals on small jobs and to apply water sealer.

I also have used many kind of sprayers. Found that the Chapin 2 gal #3060 model have been the best. It is metal so if you put hot water in them it stays hotter longer cost about $40.00.

hi dan,

let me tell you the best pump-up on the market. Lowe's here sells a severe weather/Chapin 2 gal. pump up. it is metal. why is it the best??????? because whenever it breaks, they will replace it for you. i break one every week or two, (same thing happened to yours) and they always replace. those things have like a two year warranty, so they'll keep replacing them. good luck,

I got tired of hand pumping and bought an electric at 325 bucks. Use for caustics, etc. You supply the bucket and with 50ft of hose you can make hay. Man that thing is an arm and back saver. The only time I plan to used another hand pump is maybe to spray lattice.. those things drive me nuts!

Just hope it lasts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have hudson S.S. pumpup its ok but I use a 12v on demand pump 99% of the time. You need aleast two pumpups or change the chemical each time for the same job,,sometimes. The 12v or electic is cheaper in the long run plus easier to use plus not stopping up near as bad,you also get a better spray pattener.I have 100ft reg. 1/4 psi hose on a reel plumbed to 6 different chemical tanks or I can pull out of all 6 at the same time,,it save me alot of time.On a hot day you don't need a pumpup stopping up on you or not pumping up at all.

Dan,

I have had great success with the Solo sprayers you have. I have used mine for over a year now, and the only thing that broke was the $4 pressure relief valve.........and the sprayer still works without it!

I've been using these things for a few years now.......never had that happen. Call Solo..........800 number on the instruction manual. If you can't find the manual, I will try to dig one up for you.

They offer a 90 day warranty for commercial use.......1 year warranty for personal use. That would probably require registering the product..........who actually does that!?? They have lots of local places to buy parts.........they can tell you where the local parts dealer is.

Personally, I did not have a good experience with the Chapins...

Dan,
There is a small o-ring in the pump part that will break
over time Solo #357 or 457. You have to play with it to open it.
I had this happen 3 times and finally the other night i
got so mad it came open(which i did not know it would do.)
and there was the broken o-ring cost .25. Now i wish i had the 2 others that we dumped in the trash! You can get parts at Lowes
and Home Depo.

Ps. Costco has the Solo backpack for 69.99.

Good luck

We use 3 gallon soft drink canisters that are charged by a small 3 hp electric compressor. I have 5 B&G pump ups for sale, and we have been using this system for 3 years along with the XJET. The soda canisters work very well, give me a call and I will give you more info if you would like.

Hey, I've been using the Black & Decker Power Sprayer for quite a while with no problems. You can get em at lowes or HDepot, They are in with the pump up sprayers, they look like a pump up but have a big green head on them. They run about $90 - $100 & are well worth it. There's no pump assy to go bad, i,e. no Pumping either :)

I use these units when I don't want to unreel hose from my Shurflo or Jet pumps, I use em for the little stuff.

I haven't tried bleach in em though. I don't see there really being a problem since nothing goes into the fluid, unless of course the fumes will cause damage, this I don't know.

i hate those pump up's
i use those lawn and garden sprayers the kind with the pump attatched to the tank 25 gal...... it sprays all kinds of stuff ..and also i use that coil 1/4 " hose (looks like an air hose).....

I hate them too. But they are handy for small jobs. Like Cody said. Sometimes I don't feel like pulling out the 12v. I need to get a reel for that anyway. I have the 12v and 200 ft of hose in a big plastic tub. So I have to pull that out. I use the battery of the truck to operate it. Then I have to stick it all back into the tub when done.

GREAT POINT BUT I WONDER HOW THOSE BACK PAC SPRAYERS WORK?
i think it would be a pain in the BUTT .........
what about an airless sprayer?
an H-V-L-P TYPE

Have one of the metal Severe Weathers from Lowes...lost the pump part somehow.
But have several of the plastis Severe Weathers from Lowe's and have had no problems at all (as long as certain people remember to rinse them out)
Also have a Power Sprayer...Love It!

The plastic ones from Home Depot aren't worth looking at. They have metal parts and seem heavy duty but the pray patterns are awful.

Anyway, just my opinions :)

Hey Dan,
Funny you should bring up sprayers. We did a job last week on a pretty large deck.
First one we could use a sprayer on due to the weather. We filled the Solo up with stain and I pumped it up and the @#$% thing started spraying from the handle!!!
I was really glad that I brought a back up. Well, I just took that one apart and saved all the good parts for "pieces parts"! Darn pump ups!
:p

My favorite are solo pump ups.I hate when that screen cloges up,especially if i have to mix chems on thew site,i always get grass in it.So one day that screen while i was cleaning it fell off the roof, never had a problem since. Thanks God it fell.
I had a problem like you mentioned, just had it a month and it broke,Made me mad.But all it took was a strong hit,i pulled the pumping handle up and nocked it back in hard,it started pumping again,it has been a month, not a problem

At last count I have 24 pump up sprayers,9 of them will work if I use them .I have a solo back pack that blew up a month and a half ago.I screwed a bolt into the pressure regulator and I had it so I could spray two stories but I guess I pumped it up one too many pumps and the bladder literally blew apart.
Right now I am using a homemade Deckhand which I made for $200.
The breakdown goes like this
Shurflo pump from northern 1.4 gpm 60 psi on demand...$59
3/8ths hose and reel 50 ft from lowes...$39
utility cart from home depot...$39
marine deep cycle battery/7 amp...$39
(I have a battery charger that costs $50 it charges my sprayer in 15 minutes!)
quick connects and a shutoff switch approx. $10.
hoses and stainless steel screens $10
So far this thing has run like champ.
If I have time I will post a picture of it and instructions how to build it.
This thing runs all day on one charge.
I am going to build another one with a 3GPM 100 psi pump for house wash chemicals in a few weeks.

Look people get yourself a soft drink soda canister along with a $50 3hp compressor and work your chemicals. The compressor fills the canisters and drives the chemicals to the gun. The chemicals never come into contact with a moving pumps or part.

With this system you have two options. 1. Direct with the small compressor. 2. Pressure the canisters and they last about 5 minutes.

You can pick these canisters up for nothing at your local soft drink dist.

Hey David,

How much hose can you have on that? I have about 200 feet running off my 12v. The problem with the 12v. They go out. The plastic gets a crack or the thing stops pumping. Sounds like a good Idea if you can run 200 plus ft off of it.

What type of connections do I need?

What's the difference between charging a battery for 15 minutes or charging up a cannister with a compressor?
Besides having a small battery or a cannister that takes up a lot more room...too each his own I guess.I prefer being able to walk up a stairway backwards with a 5 gallon jug of sealer. And if by chance I do run out of juice I go to the truck pull out the charger and within minutes I am in business.Although I have done several 10 hour days without running out of juice.I have 2 more pumps sitting in my truck that are ready to go and it will take literally 2 minutes to hook up.I also like the on demand feature, which with a cannister if you have a miniscule breach in any of the system will deplete your pressure source. Everyone has their own methods.

Why run the 200 feet of hose? Get a 12v compressor or some kind of inverter. In a line you have the 110 outlet-the compressor-hose to the canister-then 20 feet to the tip. I would think that this would work in most applications and in those other times use a pump up.
