Bret,

Keep your day job. Now is not the time to drop everything and start pressure washing. Most of these guys, this time of year, don't even think about pressure washing. Here in Texas, we still can, not much of a winter here, compared. But business still drops considerably, so i know it does there too. Hardly any residential, and you'd better have had your commercial or its too late, for this winter. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but thats the just of it.

You might start doing some freebies, charitys, churches, friends, ect. to get your name out there, but for good paying jobs at this time of year, they are not very common.

I’m not sure I would want to stop painting interiors to endeavor into the cold whether. If you’re game, why not get a head start for springtime. Your gonna have to start sometime. I too live in warm whether and work all year round. Cold whether is no stranger, I run my business in the cold country. When it’s really cold you can sell a lot of jobs. Line them up for spring, if for some reason whether breaks you can start them. You certainly don’t want to sit around and Graig’s idea to do some charity works is a great one. At the minimum I would be working on a marketing program mailers and faxing. Getting names of people together that make decisions.

If you could answer these questions I could help more.

1. What type of pressure washing are you going to do? Decks, flatwork, fleetwork or hoods. Maybe something else?

2. Do you feel you can make more money pressure washing than painting in the winter?

2. Are you in a large populated area? If so how many people in your community?

Ron...thanks for responding and to answer your 3 questions.
1) Type of work... specialize in houses and flatwork.
2) I'm really getting tired of painting. The builders are not real responsible about paying.
3) Populations is 373,174 (Stark County)
Cleveland area is 2,910,616 (i'm about 45 minutes away)
Thanks so much!

Flatwork, I love flatwork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well there isn’t any reason in the world you can’t get started right now. Go get away from this computer and knock on doors. Get a flyer mailer something together telling them what you do. All commercial accounts have flatwork that needs to be done all year round. I have a friend that specializes in just bathrooms. He can do bathrooms all year round. Its inside and its very warm. Kitchen interior floors need pressure washing. A man can make a good living on interior floors. Get some of these accounts this winter and come spring they will bombard you with exterior work.

Hey don’t think collecting is easy in pressure washing. You really need to keep good tabs on people as well. Plus instead of having a few customers you might have hundreds. Most large companies pay well; usually the trouble is with franchisee. Of course your homeowners pay cash check or credit. You will have slow payer in this business if you’re going to do commercial work.

If you busted your balls you could increase your monthly revenue by at least 6,000 over the next six months. That’s 6,000 a month steady. Get a plan and get busy don’t wait or you will be left behind. Someone else is working the field and if you don’t, they will get the jobs in the spring as well as the residual income you need to feed your family. Good luck if you need help just call anytime.
