Welcome Doug

What's a good hot machine ;),a 71 vettie.

5 gpm is enough,6 is ok,more is preferred,8,10 ect.,from 3000psi to 4000psi is common, some prefer even more gpm/psi.Any quality hot machine would be ok.The more gpm and psi the more a good quality hot machine will cost.

Thanks guys

Whats your opinion on the Allison Iron Horse. What would be your ideal machine? One last thing...Does anybody make a 12V hotbox and do the do a good job, I heard that they only increase water temp by 50 degrees or so. So if the inlet water source is 55-60 outlet temp would be 100- 120degrees. Any thoughts on this? Thanks Doug

Hey Mark...vacation was good! But I'm getting antsy to start back to work again. Winter is too long in Michigan.

The unit I got from you has a General/Interpump on it. 1021?

OK.. that unit is running 5.0 GPM at 3500 PSI.

The same machine with AR pump model XW2125 or XW2128 runs 5.5 GPM @ 3500 PSI

Is there any advantage

To having the coil vertical as opposed to horazontal.
Can a skid with say a 300 gal tank be put on a 6x12 single axle enclosed trailer with #3000lb axle. I need Some advice Doug

Doug,
The short answer....no, a 300 gallon tank full weighs over 2500# alone. The skid, fuel, supplies etc.... is too much weight for a single axle trailer.

I thought it would be too much. I'm trying to get set up with a hot machine , but didn't want to have to get another trailer if I didn't have to. Whats a good working size? 7x16 is what I'm thinking. I'll have to keep the 6x12 because of all the tight driveways at the residential jobs. Cant get a 16ft down the drive. What about the vertical coils vs. the horazontal. Any difference in operation or anything. Doug

hey doug a 300 gallon tank with equiptment will put you at or near 3000pds i would consider a double axle trailer or dont top off your tank

I have a single axel enclosed and found that the trailer is half of the gross weight.

Trailer gross is 3500 and the trailer itself weighs 1750..

Doug,
A 7x16 tandem would be a good choice, as long as you can fit everything you need to on it, which I think you probably can.

The thing about a tandem axle is that when properly loaded, the weight is spread across the axles better, and puts less weight on the tongue. Also, a tandem will tow easier, and be less squirley than a single axle.

As far as leaf springs vs. torsion axles, I have both styles, and I think the torsion style may be a bit more stable than the leaf. Also, I notice that the leafs tend to squeak, which annoys the hell out of me sometimes.

If you choose to keep the single axle, you would be best to not fill the tank, maybe half at most. Of course, if the tank isn't baffled inside, you're going to get a lot of water sloshing which makes the trailer more squirley and harder to stop.

Hopefully you have trailer brakes, if not, I could not recommend using that trailer at all. Some will say it's ok to run without trailer brakes, but the fact is that most states require them at weights above 2500 pounds, not to mention it's rough on your truck brakes stopping that much weight. You'll find out the first time someone cuts in front of you and takes away your stopping area.

I have a 7x14 with a 225 gallon tank and a hot water skid...Still have a good bit of room, though a 7x16 would give you a little more...Just harder to maneuver.

Thanks

Tony and every one.
I'm undecided what to do right now.
I want to put some thought into this before sinking big bucks. Double axle is the way to go for sure.
I like my enclosed, keeps the theives and weather out.
What about skid units? pros / cons on 12v vs115v
