Pump not Pumping! (turning)

I was rinsing off a deck yesterday when I heard a whining then grinding noise and then no pressure.I took the pump apart and found no damage to the valves or plungers and I could turn the pump freely by hand.I did notice minor damage on the shaft of the engine.Just wondering if this could have stripped somehow? and if this is stripped is the inside of the pump where the shaft goes in stripped also? Also is there a way to fix this?

If it is a Direct drive pump You probobly sheered the keyway. you can replace the key and it may work. Sometimes you have to make a special key if there is dammage to the key way. Also check the inside of the pump crank case for dammage.

I am assuming that the shaft on the engine is the key and the hole where the shaft goes into the pump is the keyway. If I got that right then the key was damaged and the inside or keyway was also damaged there is a small crack inside and on the shaft itself there is damage right in the middle of the groove.I haven't got a clue as to where I would get replacement parts. is the pieces I am describing part of the pump?(the inside where the shaft goes)And how do I go about replacing the key.It is a honda gx series engine and a cat 2sf series pump.

JR,

The keyway is a single spline that is set in a groove on the shaft (motor side). It corresponds with a groove on the pump shaft so when they are interlocked the pump will rotate. I snapped one on a honda before and with a little filing and deburring we were able to repair the slot and install a new keyway. Make sure you put anti-sieze on the shaft before reassembly... it will make life much easier when and if you need to pull the pump again.

Thank God for Never Seize!

This is a common problem on direct drive pumps, I have also seen this on gear reduction pump units.

For heavy usage a belt driven pump is the best!
