There is usually a set screw in the shaft to couple them together. If it is a General Pump gear reduction the set screw is in the gear inside of the body. If it is an AR style and it does not have a set screw, you are in for a struggle. The way I did one without messing up the engine shaft is kind of radical. I got out the cutting torch and melted the whole housing off untill the only thing left was the gear on the shaft of the motor. Then I welded a big nut on the end of the gear and I grinded the end of the bolt that matched the nut to a point and ran the bolt into the nut and it had no choice but to break loose. You can't get a pulley puller on it but that trick sure got that gear off of the shaft. When you put the new one put silicon grease or Never Seize on the shaft. Use alot. That will stop the rust. Before you install it clean up the engine shaft with sand paper . The easy way is to run the engine and pull the sand paper around the shaft while the engine is running.
