A little safety reminder.

When I was in high school my grandfather had ordered a log truck full of logs to cut up for firewood. Well one day while I was at school I got a call that he was in the hospital so I ran home picked up my grandmother and we went to the hospital. What had happened is that the logs had rolled while he was up on them and he jumped off. When he landed, he landed on his heel and crushed the cartilage. Well long story short, he was in a wheelchair for 4 months before he could walk again.

The reason I bring this up is that last night I found out that my ex-brother in-law is just now starting to be able to walk after getting injured before Christmas.

What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?

Well it was how he got injured.

1. He was cleaning his gutters.
2. He fell
3. He landed on the concrete border around the flower beds
4. He crushed BOTH of his heels.
5. He only has a single story house.

Both of these family members fell from less than 8 feet off the ground.

I had an architect customer in Tennessee tell me a story how one of the partners in the firm (62 years old) was a tight wad and was cleaning his own gutters. Long story shorter he fell and attempted to catch himself with his arms. $250k, 4 surgeries and 4 months later he was finally back at work.

Be SAFE everyone!

When I was a full-time Firefighter, we were told that a fall of 3 feet could kill or turn you into a vegatable if you landed on your head. If your sitting while reading this, look down at the floor. More than 3 feet isn't it.
