A true story

Well, I have a story that is true.

The other day I was in my office and was talking on the phone. The back door was open, and I was busy just getting stuff done. Pretty soon, I heard a commotion in the other room.
I heard pounding on the walls and my dog was going ballistic. I finished my phone conversation, I mean business had to come first, and finally went out to se what the problem was. I walked out and saw a bird on one of the window ledges.
I though, "crap, stupid pigeon flew in the house." So I stood on a chair to get a closer look. The bird turned and it was a Hawk. Now I had a problem. What do you do with a hawk in the house?? So I got out some leather gloves, and was really careful to avoid those talons, and reached up to get the bird. The bird was going ballistic. Just as I started touching it the Hawk calmed right down. Did not even turn his head. I picked him up and took him outside.
I was kind of upset, stupid bird made me a little late for an appointment. But I got him out the door, and shut the door. My dog, Knucklehead,(really his name is Shadow, but I call him Knucklehead) finally calmed down. He is really lucky that he wasn't lunch, and I left. As I left, I called my wife and told her the whole story.
I had been working for about an hour and I get a frnatic call from my Wife,"I though you got that stupid bird out of the house." I assured her that I did, and that everything was okay. She said, "No it isn't. There is a bird in my house and I want him out now." I asked her what kind of bird it was and she said it was a quail. I guess what happened was the hawk was chasing the quail, and chased him right into the house. I saw the Hawk, but I didn't see the quail, because he was hiding. True Story, it happened last week.

Scott,

Great story, so what happened with the quail? Your lucky it wasn't a elephant chasing a peanut! That could get ugly.

Had a unique experience as you did when we first bought the house we are living in now.

One day my wife mentioned that she heard scratching sounds coming from the wood stove. Winter was approaching so I decided to clean out the stove and check the chimney. What I ended up finding was BATS.

Although I'm not a bat lover, I certainly didn't want to light a real fire because they would all surely die. Without knowing the proper procedures for bat removal, I decided that the best method to get rid of them was to buy some incense and drive them out with a strong odor. I bought some, lit the whole package, and threw it in the stove. I believe this did overwhelm the bats considerably, but do you think they left........

Not yet the guru in bat removal, and unable to sell secret and high quality bat removal products (incense) over the internet. I decided to smoke them out - and this may have well worked if bats had more intelligence.

I got some newspaper lit it and threw it in the stove. I knew the paper would not produce much heat and would create quite a bit of smoke.

As soon as I lit the newspaper and threw it in, all the bats immediately flew right down into the fire - I threw the grate on the stove to allow no draft for the flame and attempted to snuff the fire, surely they should have left........

As I watched them through the glass window of the stove and noticed their bulging little eyes and their overworked little lungs trying to compensate for the still smoking newspaper I realized that I had to save them.

I opened the door to the stove and regretfully most had perished but one remained and flew out of the stove and perched itself on a magazine rack. I braced the door open, got a towel and gently directed the bat out of the house. He cleared the door flew over a concrete pad about 6-8 ft off the ground and right in front of my eyes a hawk came down and picked him right out of the air.

Webster defines bats as a mouse like mammals with furry bodies and membraneous wings usually seen flying at night. I would add they aren't very smart either!

AHh yes, the quail, When my wife called me I told her how to take the screen off of the window. So she got the screen off with the quail supervisiing, and it flew out.
