Accepting Credit Cards

Looking for advice on accepting credit cards from out in the field. You know, something that will allow me to give to the customer after completion of a job. Can anyone give me names of companies they currently use that don't over charge so I may contact them to allow me to accept Visa/Mastercard etc.
I'm out of Massachusetts.

Thanks,
Paul

some banks have a merchant system that you can call and verify over the phone whether a card is accepted or declined. the cost for mine is like .39 for every $20 and it goes right into my bank account. no monthly fee or minimums.

Your financial institute will have Merchant Services. Count on at least 3% charge plus the lease option on a machine. You can also purchase a machine however they seem to go out of date after a year or two. If you run a decent volume (1,000,000.00) your rate can drop to 1.7%. The beauty is that your money is available in less than 48hrs ye ha..........

I have been using Heartland Payment Services for about 4 years. I pay about $25/mo plus 2 point something percent. Money deposited in 24 - 48 hours. I call in every card from my cell phone and get an immediate authorization. No machine, no "lease" of any kind. There are other services out there with similar offerings, but I have not found one that beats what I've got. (Believe me, I get calls ALL the time guaranteeing me $500 that they can beat my deal. They can't and I don't "qualify" for the money! lol)

I got the same call the other day and they could only beat the rate. NOBODY has yet to beat the TOTAL cost I spend yet. It's that $25/month you spend that I don't. No monthly fee for the service I use. The monthly fee is the killer when tose guys say they can beat the service I use but they can't if you include the fee. The rate becomes null at that point.

ProPay looks good, but the per sale limits are way too low - unless you pay big $$/year.
I think paypal has raised theirs to $30 month. At least you can choose with propay. Most jobs I have 1/3 - 1/2 down before I start so propay works well for me.
