Advertizing

Do we need people endorsing their products on this board? I understand the need to mention brand names for troubleshooting problems and finding out what other people use but, do we need manufactures advertizing on this board? Recently I recieved E-mail linked from this board from a company advertizing a product. I know this board does not endorse advertizing but, I do see certain products advertized on this board. X-JET is the most noticeable. What do you think!Just scroll down the topics for the last 10 days and see howmany you can find that mention X-JET.

Hey Wizard,
Ron at exterior is a cosponsor of this board, as is Chris at Sunbrite. They make this board possible. Who do you think provides this service for us? Not Dan alone. The privilage could also be taken away, as well as the whole board dismantled at Dan's descretion. I think it is great these guys decided to support Dan and his board and allow me and you the opportunity to visit and post here. After all, how would we have all got together? I have talked with both of these guy's and they seem like good fellows. I don't feel they push their products on any of us, but naturally they benefit from a business stand point by being a sponsor. Kinda like the bill boards around a race track if that makes any sense.

Something to notice:
Since the 20th - the word X-Jet shows 3 times.
Once by Ron - to let people know that there is a solution to the hose pulling from the bucket.
The other 2 were from other people like you & I!

I think we should be allowed to use "brand names" if it is a product that we have used, good or bad. It is hard to distinguish true users from those wanting free advertising though. Believe me, I was accused of advertising when I was only telling you folks about a new product that I felt would help us all! Oh well, it boils down to this. If you want to advertise on this board you need to pay the required fees to support this great board. If you want to talk about a specific product, ask Dan if it is ok first!! Don't take me wrong, I like Dan and this bb!!

I think we should be able to use the name of brand item that work or not work for us. I would think of two ways to control problems would be at the profile level or make a brand name BB/link plus have a classified section for new and used items for sale.

The X-Jet item is a time saving item - plus you can limit your use of problem prone downlines. In the past I have used expensive B&G sprayers at $350 ea-now the XJet works better than expected. One of my crew managers uses the item on full- meaning that it can put 5 gallons of chem. on a location in 2 min. Since all we service are hoods & this item is great for dealing with the type of grease that we remove.

When we suggest this item it is because it works and delivers. Sure the product has limits-but still the X-Jet works best for my system 90% of the time.

Good Luck

David

I am in full agreement.I don't want to see advertisements either but if there is a strong endorsement by a fellow contractor on a specific brand of product i want to hear about it.Trying to figure out what brand ****** is isn't doing anyone any good. No salesmen please. Just endorsements about products that work well. Rick T

Frankly, I think that all this stuff like: "I was washing using ****** detergent through my ******* downstream injector..." is completely silly. It's even sillier when the writter assumes that everyone knows what "******" refers to. There is a difference between advertising and just telling what kind of equipment you use on a job.

Have fun,

All,
When you see astericks where a brand name should be, the writer didn't put it in like that. The board is programed to block out name brands of suppliers and their trade names if they do not support this board. For instance Delc- and envir-spec and so on. If they sponsored the board, they could be represented here. If they are represented here and not a sponsor, it would not be fair to the companies that are sponsoring it. I think maybe Dan should explain this to yall. I just kinda figured it out on my own. Somebody has to pay the bills here, either us or the sponsors, who would you rather it be?

I enjoyed this whole set of comments as the issue was explained and debated. The only time I winced was when I read the post, in all caps, that implied that the professionals with sincere questions were "crying" about something. The purpose of this forum is EXACTLY that, to discuss and respectfully debate various issues: equipment, chamicals, supplies, configuration, repairs, marketing, technical support, specific problem-solving, and a number of other themes.
As this forum matures, grows, and evolves, it is EXACTLY issues like these that will give some direction and feedback to the hosts. I for one enjoy them, and if I don't, I can simply move on to another topic.
