Aluminum siding

[white] I was wondering if anyone has ever done aluminum siding before. I was asked to give an estimate for a house with aluminum siding and I told her $300. I am not sure what steps to take to do it. Should I just spray it or spray a solution on it first and since it is aluminum what angles would be the best and pressure etc. By the way she thought my price was to high. It was a three bedroom two level house. Also I gave an estimate on a wooden fence and I gave her the same price as I would for a deck which is $1.50 square foot. to clean and seal. she thought that was WAY to much but the way I see it on a fence you have to do both sides so actually the square footage should have been doubled.

i found aluminum is a little harder to clean then regular siding the dirt usually doesint want to come off that easy and i end up using a brush as well. i use a all purpose cleaner and spray on first but i really need a chem just for aluminum. i also find that you have to be a little careful and use low pressure with a wide tip paint comes off pretty easy. as for the pricing ppl are always going to complain and think its too high even if we give them a good price, they will just find someone who is going to do it cheaper. but they get what they pay for.

$1 is too high of a price if you don't know how to clean it. Why are you bidding on a project you don't know how to do? Yes, you have to bid the fence work for both sides if that's what needs to be done.

I know what you mean

I was definitely going to learn how to do aluminum siding before I actually did it but I guess I am just starting and didn't want to say I have never done it so I just gave her a price I thought she would go for and that I thought I could make money at. I am a carpenter by trade and Can build a house from the ground up If I needed to. So I guess I am sometimes a little over confidant when I look at a job. I think {how hard could it be. I am going to take some training courses asap and also Learn how to do exhaust cleaning for restaurants.

I have no freaking idea what I am getting into only that I know there is good money in it and i have a two year old who I don't want to do the things I have had to do all my life. He is going to college and and if I have to work 14 hours a day to get him there that's what I will do. I have been reading a lot about power washing and it was a fluke that I started doing it. I was just rehabbing a friends deck for him and i used a solution and brush to clean everything and wqas convinced a power washer couldn't do it as well. Someone told me otherwise and I decided to borrow one to see if they were right. Well it so happens the damn thing wouldn't start. I tried for an hour to get it started and it wouldn't . so after frustrating myself like that I decided to go and buy one. Being the type of person I am I just had to go and get the most expensive one that Home Depot had. I Dewalt 3750psi 13 horsepower honda motor. after I used it i was blown away with how well it worked. I kinda had to do some sanding afterward but all in all I didn't do to bad. I basically learned how to use it on my friends deck. After that I started googling on how to use the damn th8ing and have bought quite a few books and dvds on it and after looking at so many websites and talking to a lot of people and looking at the going rate for power washing I decided to add it to my handyman service but I think I will make it a full time thing when I get enough business because there is a lot more money in pressure washing than there is in fixing odd things for people. Damn I cant believe I just wrote all of that.

good luck

Hey m&m , Good luck, you are doing this for the same reasons as me and those are the best reasons..I am fortunate enough to have worked for a pw biz and gained experience, I would suggest that you do as much free or cheap washing you can for yourself and family & friends first, because on job experience is the best way to learn, books and dvd's dont hurt either...Good Luck to you

Appreciate it

I appreciate your support. I didnt know that the pump was not a professional grade.I guess I should have known being that it only cost $999 and wherever I looked they all said that you need to spend at least $1,500 for a standard commercial. I guess I thought i got a good deal. As long as it gets the ball rolling i can live with it. [white]

Important note:

On the direct drive units remove pump
periodically and replace shaft key if worn. [hello]

thanks mark nice to know!!

on another note even if the PW has a heavy duty commercial pump installed from factory, is it still garbage?
