Has anyone out there ever heard of a sealer called LIFE-GUARD 4 Wood? I am getting ready to do a deck job and the owner showed me a gallon can of this product. He knows this is what was put on about two years ago, but doesn't know much else. The thing about the can that caught my eye, was that it advertises as " liquified rubber". I am going to do a test spot on the deck and see how this stuff comes off.
I have read much on this bulletin board but have never read anything about this product. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for the useful information on this board. It seems like there are alot of good people out there. I just started this year, this board has been extremely useful.

Good luck with the Life_Guard.

My wife and I sealed a deck last year for a customer that had bought three 5 gallon buckets from Lowes at a clearance price. When we opened the buckets it made you cry and nose run. Would just burn.

Also, with her rolling and me brushing at the same time and on the same board the color difference was horrible. What a waste.

PS> Somebody told me that this product was pulled off of the shelves by the EPA.

Also had some kind of rubberized coating and said that it lasted 10 plus years.

I haven't got around to the test on this deck yet. I am a little leary about taking on this job. The owner is extremely picky, but he did agree that we should try a test patch and see how well it comes off. He even suggested letting it wear off another year. This would be fine with me, I have other work to do. I would hate to get in over my head with some type of mystery product that won't come off by conventional means. When I do find something out, I will update, in case someone else runs into this product.

Dave,

I have not heard of Life-Guard and my research does not show this product. Could you be talking about the "Lifeline" product by Perma-Chink??

Jim,

I have seen the can. The address for Life Guard was one in California. The phone number had been disconnected.

A picky homeowner and a mystery product is a dangerous combination. Tell him to wait till next year and maybe you'll get lucky and he'll call someone else.

Out of Calif. That explains it. Calif. prop. 65 wipped out quite a few business, just couldn't or wouldn't comply with it. You Calif. people should know what I'm talking about.

Thanks guys. I think I am going to pass on this job. It is a huge deck, and I would hate to get stuck sanding off a mystery coating. The owner originally just wanted a house wash anyway.
