Anyone know painting??

Settle something for me............when painting a room a different color, in this case a light tan, shouldn't the ceiling be painted the same color as the wall??? Or should the ceiling be white.

A little debate going on here.......

I know the ceiling should be a flat paint, but I think it should be the same color as the walls.

What do you think?

i think i'd have to disagree with you Mike. We are remodeling our bathroom and are doing the two-tone. Looks better in my opinion. Now, it you are doing something extremely neutral (off white, antique white, eggshell) then it looks fine to do it all the same color. What i have found and seen to look best is a variant of white on the ceiling, with a slight color on the walls. Looks best when contrast is very, very faint. Also do all trim in the white color. Probably interior doors too.

Go this weekend to a couple open houses and see what they did in those homes.

by painting the ceiling white it reflects light better and makes the room look brighter and bigger. If you do it the same color its darker and looks closterphobic. In bathrooms use a primer made by zinnser[home dept] it will never get mold/mildew from the steam.

hehe it's her house ya'd better listen to the boss of the house,( yel I know ya think you R,lol).

With it being the same color wouldn't it make the room look smaller and ceiling lower,I think the color of the walls and ceiling give rooms height. If your trying to bring the height down in the room it would look ok.White want show dirt as easy as the colored one...if running ceiling fans pulling air up I'd pick white or egg shell.

Mike,
Like Bigboy said you better listen to what the wife wants. It's just not worth it if you do it your way because you will never hear the end of it. Take it from me I learned the hard way over the years.

As far as going with the same color with the walls and ceiling there's to much of a clash there. The room will also look smaller and darker. The general rule is the ceiling as a flat white and the trim(moulding) is usually a semigloss white and the walls what ever color you pick. Listen to the interior boss(Wife).

Hey Mike,

If you want to change color for the ceiling take a look at Navaho White or another off white but don't paint it any other color.

Hey this is one time Bigboy and John are in the minority, sorry boys.

Dont laugh blue with white clouds is great. My mother has all her bathroom walls painted an ocean sence (ships beach, etc.)with ceiling of clouds and even has a palm tree painted behind the john and has a real coconut sitting on the tank. Her living room has a country theme with deer and all. If not I'd say white

Mike...you didn't say which room you were painting, but I could think of one room where maybe even mirrors on the ceiling could work.[green]

Well, been painting since Friday afternoon.......its now Monday night and its still not quite done.

Painting the whole downstairs.

Went with a slightly off white color for the ceiling......I couldnt do white! Painted the walls "camel", which is a light tan/brown mix.........and the trim off-white.

I'll post a pic when its done..........which better be tomorrow! I only have to put a second coat on the kitchen in a hallway.

Fun.....Fun.....Fun!! Not.

Mike,

You should have bartered with a painter to trade off, you do some pressure washing for him, he paints for you.

I dont think I'd house paint for any amount of money. I hope to never do it again........drove me about nuts.

I like sealing decks........but painting walls and especially ceilings, I will be leaving to someone else from now on.
