Basement Flood Cleanup

Need some help. Haven't had this request yet.

We've been asked to Pressure Wash a basement that was flooded with about 2-3 feet of water. We will be washing mud from the walls and floor.

The heater, water heater and washer dryer are all wasted, so we won't be worried about causing any other damage. There is also a sump pump so we can get the water out of the basement.

Not sure how much mud yet, I will probably rent a sludge pump if there is a lot of mud.

Anything else I should be aware/concerned with? Anyone have experience doing this?

Thank you,
Shawn

Sounds like a mess.......make sure you throw some extra money into the bid to account for all the time you will waste pushing water around.........

good luck.

Make sure you turn off the power (YOURSELF)
to the entire basement.

Get as much of the mud out before you crank up
your pw.

Spray with something to kill the mold and prevent its return.

Bill high you will spend 2x the time you think!

Do a good job and make the insurance company happy
so they will use you in the future.

Good luck

Shawn,

Is that job located in Trappe, PA by any chance?

Also, If you turn off the power in the basement that will cancel the electric to the sump pump. Which you will need to get the water out. Unless you get a generator for it.

Thanks for the tips,

Yes Rick, Trappe, PA for a friend's neighbor. Did you get a call also? This job is too far north for us, only looking at it because a friend referred us.

Good point Shawn Perkins, Do you have a mold killer formula for use indoors? (I would think a bleach mixture would drive them out of their house for a while.) All they really want from me is to make it look clean. (I didn't think of the mold) I guess to offer this would be a good selling point as a "throw in". Can you go into more detail on this?

Talked to her on Friday. Told her that everything not nailed down needs to be moved out of the basement and went with our standard hourly rate. I will add any rental equipment to our price if she calls back for a firm quote.

We'll see......

Thanks again,
Shawn

Boy......one right up the road!

Jobs like that, I refer to a company in Franconia called EDS......Eastern Diversified Services. They specialize in disaster/fire, etc restorations, and have better equipment to deal with jobs like that.

Their number is 800-295-3636

Rick/Mike,

Not the same one.

This is a residence in a newer development. Very small basement.

This area got a whole lot of water in the last round of thunderstorms. Apparently, the development has a lot of problems with drainage and this basement took on a lot of water. there was something wrong with the sump pump. it wasn't working right, and couldn't keep up with the water.
