Biggest mistake of my life!

I was using phosphoric acid for a couple of days with a spry bottle which atomizes the chemical (trggier spray bottles do this) and was not thinking.
For two days now I have been coughing up the gross stuff associated with infection.

I just did not wear a mask...had I worn the proper protection equipment (PPE) I would be fine. I will recover but in the meantime, i am seriously reminded why we are supposed to use PPE.

Just a reminder...safety first...always.

I am lucky....this time. [puke]

Sorry to hear about that. Hope you're going to be OK! Thanks for that reminder on PPE's!! We have to remind ourselves CONSTANTLY that no matter how big or small the project is, we need to take the proper precautions with ALL chemicals. It only takes one whiff to cause a health issue.

Good Luck!

Be mindful of the wind direction, too.
Like drivewaysonly, I wasn't thinking, messing with battery acid, (sulfuric acid) dashed a big cupful of it at the ground, wind blew it right back in my face.
I looked like I had a bad case of measles because of the burns. Little red dots all over me. Not pleasant.

I work as a chemical operator and my supervisor is a chemist (very helpful). If I know that I will be using say 45% KOH (for concrete) then I make sure to ask him what strength and kind of acid will neutralize this and I keep that on the job. We have some chemicals that water doesnt react well with and I try to make sure that I dont use them unless I have to.

I had to use some powder at work the other night.....got a little on the floor and went to wash it down. I spray it lightly and stopped to get a kink out of the hose and it started smoldering to catch fire before I could douse it with the water needed.

SO BE CAREFUL.
