Blog vs Ezine

Not much of a difference as far as the article goes, but using articles outside of your website/blog linking to your blog will greatly improve your SEO. It also puts you in a positive position of being an expert on a subject.

A blog consists of more frequently updated "ramblings" of 250-300 words. The more you have (on different servers), the better. You do have to learn how to use them utlizing anchor text.

An article, is usually 600-800 words and is more comprehensive and is not as personal as a blog. The blog is you talking to the reader. The article is you informing the reader in one comprehensive writing.

The ultimate educational digital writing is called a lens. On these you can insert video, pictures and you reference your resources. Ill link three of my examples below.

Blog post -----> Pressure Washing Wayne, Villanova, Bryn Mawr, PA - Pressure Pros Incorporated, Havertown

Article -----> http://ezinearticles.com/?Deck-Cleaning-and-Wood-Deck-Stains---A-Do-It-Yourself-Guide&id=956289

Squidoo Lens -----> Roof Cleaning : Removing Black Streaks From A Roof

For killer ranking you combine these things with directory submissions, properly titled ads on classified sites, anchor text signature links on forums, comments on well ranked blogs, and a strong internal linking structure on your website. You back that up with social media sites like a Facebook business page and a video channel on YouTube.

I get a lot of traffic to my site from my squidoo lens. Simple to setup and they're free... so why is most of you guys don't have at least one?

Here is mine: Restaurant Hood Cleaning - Help for Contractors

Ant, they definitely involve some time and forethought to setup. That has precluded me from writing another one. But... my roof cleaning jumped from the third Google SERP (ranked #33) to first page #5 immediately after I wrote that lens. It works well so the time invested is worth it.

Ken and Ant- thanks for the info on Squidoo! I have heard about the site but hadn't looked into it much. It does look like it would take some time to work on but I enjoy writing so it may just work out good for me.

I checked out both your lenses and they look great! Ken- I love your writing and Ant- you are always so helpful dude. Rock on.

Question - How do you guys feel about the advertisements for other contractor's websites on your lens?
