Does anyone have experience with cedar shake restoration? The few I have done, I used TWP products or Wolman F&P suggested by my suppliers. I have a customer that wants a color basically darker than clear but not as dark as F&P Natural, not to gold or honey?I told them I would check into it. The house is mostly surrounded by trees and has alot of moss etc. on it. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hey Jerry,

We use Ready Seal on all our wood jobs, especially on cedar roofs. The light brown color looks great on cedar. The natural cedar color looks great on pine shakes (makes them look like cedar) The high flash point makes Ready seal a great candidate for roofs, also it can rain 15 minutes after you seal.

Visit our site for more info www.sunbritesupply.com or sunbritedecks.com Thank you Chris Detter:) :) :)

What about F&p cedar, it is a little lighter than the natural...it depends on what you have to start with.Anything with a little color works with verticals.Even cwf uv.You have pretty much cut out 90% of the options in your post.

are you using the TWP 100 or 200 series?? the 200 is the product made for cedar roofs, and comes in like 10 colors. You can also intermix colors. Readyseal lightbrown would also look beautiful, would also be much easier to work with. Try upselling them a borate treatment if the roof is in a place where it gets lots of mold and mildew.

good luck,

Dakodawash, I talked with a contractor in Washington state earlier this week that does about 300 cedar shake roofs a year. His name is Shane @ 360-825-0939. He might tell you what products he uses.
