Rudy,

I would never get into selling chemicals for many reasons. I guess the largest reason this would be just another tax I would have to collect. I would need to charge every customer different rates depending on what city I was selling in. to myself this seem not be worth all the hassle.

Of course I don’t have any one customer that might using 150 gallon of chemicals.
I might consider if I had customers using this quantity.
Second point; now you have assumed liability for that chemical you sold. Also you have made record of using that chemical. Lets face it we all think and are told chemicals are safe. Then years later we are told they kill or cause cancer. Know the company wants you to compensate their employees for medical conditions. Maybe this is a little extreme. I think you know and I know we can pass the chemical cost on to our customers with out complicated paper work.

An interesting thought, but, like Ron hinted, I like to keep my chemical usage anonymous. I don't like to tell customers exactly what I'm using, and I usually refer to them as "cleaners" rather than chemicals.

With Ron and Mike here, I don't charge for what I need to do the job.

I also never call them chemicals but like Mike I use the word cleaners.

Yes I do carry my MSDS sheets as we are required to do.

The only time I charge addtional is for sealing this is a no-brainer though,, I don't charge them for the sealant, just a flat charge for doing it all (unless you have an excellent rapport with the customer then you could give them a price pre gallon for materials and labor,, as for chemicals that you use you on each job, well you really don't need to get into that as far as your bid, when you bid the job you should simply add in the fact that you'll need x amount of chemicals,, When my customers ask what I use, I tell em it's my "Secret Sause"

Rudy, if we read your question properly I beleive the proper response would be yes. We do charge for time & materials. That is why it is called time & MATERIALS. We charge our hourly rate - based on the type of job than we figure at least $10.00 / gallon for chemical, cleaning solution or whatever you fell comfortable calling said supplies. Yes, we do tell the customer that our rate is time & MATERIALS. Hope that helps, have a great day.

Hi Rudy,

Some our accounts that we charge time & material rates we call "Chemicals" Degreaser! Some jobs we bid T&M not to exceed a certain amount. When we bill we seldom are asked to itemize. Of course if we exceed the NTE amount the customer has a right to see where the overage occured.

Good Luck on your big job!
