Customer wants brick sealed?

Hey guys,
The phone finally rang today. I have a customer that has an older large 2 story home that was bricked in the 60's with an interior grade brick which came out of an old school house. He has cleaned the house himself with a clorox mixture to remove the mold and mildew, and now he wants it sealed. He has had this done before and he thinks it was Thompsons sealer. Have any of you ran into this before? What do you recommend for a sealer? I have a sureflo pump with a 20 gallon tank and will probably rent a cherry picker if I get the job.

Glenn,

Talk to the folks at Ready Seal. The place i buy my Ready Seal Locally was telling me their is a brick/concrete sealer that prevents mold and mildew from recurring for at least 3 years, guaranteed. Whether it is true or not, i have no idea.

I've never done sealing before,but.

You could ask your local brick company for a sealer.

Some sealers will darken alittle.

Some can gloss,Lt.,med. and high gloss.

I know you said he washed it but did he get the old sealer off?Do you think the old sealer will be a problem when appling new over the old?Just some things to think about..........Good luck.............C-ya

Hey Guys,
I went and took a look at the job today. Old southern mansion. This is a very large home with a beautifull genuine slate roof. The house was bricked with a premium grade brick that is usually used in interior walls. It is beautiful brick but requires a sealer to prevent water penetration during the freeze thaw cycles of winter. I mentioned V-seal and they seamed interested. I gave them a brochure before I left on V-seal. They gave me the name and dealer name of the sealer they used before, about 5 years ago. I plan to research these and other sealers before making a recommendation. If any of you can give me some info on masonry sealers I would appreciate it. I am looking for a penetrating sealer that will repell moisture. They said the old one would bead water, so I'm sure thay will expect this property in the new one if different than the old one.
