Deck stain

I recently just stained my personal deck and my neighbor liked it so well he asked for me to do his. My normal business is cleaning and restoration of decks and of course sealing of which I am quite prepared to offer him a bid on. However I am not quite sure how to quote price on staining his deck. It is 520 sq feet without railing, any help would be appreciated....thanks in advance.

There are always lowball and high-pricers, but most of the folks I talk to every day try to get between 1.50 to 2.50 per square foot (including railings).
If you do a "search" on deck pricing in this BBS, you will find a MILLION posts to read. This is the best education you can get without losing your fanny.

Additional thought: You really don't need to stain as a separate step. Most good sealers are semi-transparent stains as well. The pigment in the sealers provides the real UV protection. If you clean and seal decks already, just switch to a pigmented sealer (assuming you are not using one already). Your customers will get longer-lasting better-performing results.

If you want to shoot the breeze about sealers for about a day and a half, send me an email.

This customer wants exactly what I used, color wise and product. I used cwf-uv cedar tone by the Flood company, a nice product from what have experienced. I dont know alot about this product but I am pleased with its performance so far. I fear I have underbid the staining part of this gig, no matter, I am still making what I feel I am worth per hour when it comes to pressure washing. I fired a 200 amount for Just the staining part of the job. I figure it will tke me less than 2 hrs to complete this part . The math is self explanatory. I must say that your reply has helped me for future reference, thanks again my friend.
