Hey all,

Just wondering what results (good or bad) anyone has had with just opening up the yellow pages and faxing businesses that may utilize pressure washing services.

I have been doing so starting this week and have had overall pretty good feed back, and written alot of quotes as a result, would like more actual jobs rather than just quotes. But hey, a pretty good start in my mind.

Maybe Not in Canada?

Ken, I'm not sure of that. Maybe in our neighbor to the north there are no laws that pertain.

Anybody else in The Great White North wanna chime in here?

In the states it has been illegal for some time to broadcast unsolicited faxes, or to market by fax where no prior business relationship exists. Fines are high, as is the irritation level of being on the receiving end, especially in the dark days before plain-paper faxes.

Be careful faxing without permission.

Guess things are a little different up here, we do not have a national DNC list.... yet, so I guess I am ahead of the curve in that sense. Of all the faxing I have done (in the hundereds) only 2 calls asking us to take us off the list. I have made a habbit of not refaxing over and over, just one per business.

Unsolicited faxes are regulated by the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) and must follow certain guidelines, but there is no individual right to sue the senders. Information on the rules of telemarketing faxes in Canada can be found in the Order CRTC 2001-193. (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Orders/2001/O2001-193.htm) Optionaly, individuals may enroll in Canadian Marketing Association's do-not-call list which covers mail, voice and fax, lasting 3 years. The list, however, is followed voluntarily by businesses and is not enforceable by law.

We are located in Winnipeg, Manitoba , faxing can be fun,, most people dont care much if they get advertising this way, however cold calling a business is the best way,, what we do here is while we are driving around we will notice a building that is in need of a good cleaning, write down the address and send them a letter of introduction outlining your services, you would be surprised how many people dont have an understanding of what can be done to make there buildings sidewalks and such, shine like new. We also are starting to do a lot of graffiti removal and that is a perfect opportunity to up sell.

good luck out there in cow town, if you want to bounce ideas back and forth feel free to email us oceanwash@shaw.ca, we would be glad to share what has worked for us here..
