I worked a job 40 hours a week on a farm and washed in the afternoons for about eight years before I took the plunge into self employment as my only source of income. How about everyone else... are you full time if so how long did it take you?

I'm also washing part time with a fulltime job in hydraulic repair. Starting to think its going to be tough going fulltime with two kids and hopefully a mortgage in the near future. Best of luck! Tom

Tom,

I forgot to mention I have been washing fulltime for two years now... just curious because it was hard for me to make enough in the beginning to stay on top of things and not fall behind.

We have been pressure Washing for the last 6 years full time. We dove into it head first. We lined up accounts before we bought the equipment, and when I had enough accounts, I signed the bottom line, so to speak. It's been good, no complaints. We even went compliant 3 years ago. We found our niche, and wound up doing well. e don't have kids, but I have equipment payments, house payments, and everything else. During the Spring we have worked odd jobs just for extra money, but 99% of the time all we do is the pressure washing. I love being self-employed. Hope this helps in your consideration.

YES Only job we have even though we thought about getting out after the wreck but we couldn't stand the thought of working for someone else after being our own bosses for so long. Been doing it 3 yrs Full Time now just can't wait till warmer weather to get back to it.

When we both got into the "business" we did it up right and went "inc." At the time Gloria was an RN at a Home Health Agency and I was a college professor teaching in the education field. Gloria just quit her job and moved closer to where I live. I continue to teach at the college. We have started another company making stone planters, "Long Mtn Planters". So we are pretty busy these days. We will make the planters in the winter months and shut down the pressure washing stuff. I will continue to teach, do the planters in the winter and in the spring, summer and fall do the pressure washing and sales of the planters. We are very busy but also very happy doing the things we love doing.

Now if we can just make some money maybe we can go on that vacation to Cozumel!!!

I was full time right from the start. I bought an existing business three years ago. I knew nothing about pressure washing at that time.

To carry me though the colder months, I do gutter cleaning (actually, I do that all year to some degree), and snow plowing.

I started out as an auto mechanic for three years then worked both for a few years. And then finally I went full time. I have been in business since 1993. I love it, all except the employee part. I would be much bigger if I had reliable help!!! Now I spend my time running after my new (1 Year old) flower. Jaime

I have been in the pressure washing business since 1994. I currently work at General Electric and have 3 employees. We wash cars for three dealers locally. I have rental property and me and my wife own a beauty shop which she runs. Plus two kids. There's just not enough time to do it all. I don't believe that I'll ever be a full-time washer.I believe that i have found a system that works for me. I think this is a great business to be in and I would wish anybody luck that would take the plunge to a full-time gig!!!

I started full time 13 years ago out of my garage. Incorporated in 1989 and now have 20+ employees, 3 offices in 2 states and a ton of headaches.

I would not give it up for anything. Everyday is a new challenge and I still get dirty on a weekly basis.
